Petroferm, a Vantage Specialty Chemicals business, is pleased to announce that Mr. Dirk Budde, Dipl.-Ing. has joined its cleaning team as regional sales manager – Europe. Budde has a Masters in Management and a Process Engineering degree and is highly experienced in the specialty chemical field. He most recently served as business development spe-cialist with Dow Corning, where he was responsible for OEMs as well as Tier 1 and Tier channels, e.g. in the electronics sector. Tim Aiken has been named president of the Nickel Institute. Aiken brings with him career-long experience at Nickel Institute member company Anglo Platinum. Aiken succeeds Dr. Kevin Bradley, who has contributed strongly to the Nickel Institute in a

number of roles while advancing the organization’s advocacy efforts.

EXPANSIONSAdvanced Technical Finishing of Alabama is undertaking a $10 million facility revitalization. Adding a total of 16,000 square feet to its current facility, the company has taken on this renovation in order to speed execu-tion, decrease turnaround time and meet the increasing customer demand for tight-tolerance, mission-critical work. ATF services the aerospace, defense, commercial, medical and transportation industries. ATF’s plans include the upgrading of the plant’s current anodizing line equipment (allowing for increased

In addition to these improve-ments, ATF has renovated its 3,000-square-foot painting facility with BR127 capabilities with large, state-of-the-art sandblasting booths; new temperature and humidly con-trolled paint booths; walk-in curing ovens for paint and powder coating; a 70-ton self-contained chiller unit; a DI water system for process lines that include large reserve tanks; and an automatic Controlstik II rinse tank monitoring system that main-tains optimal water quality and pro-

vides water savings of up to 85 per-cent. Most importantly, a new ventilation system creates a healthier and cleaner workplace for our employees.

Axalta Coating Systems, formerly DuPont Performance Coatings, plans to invest more than $50 million to construct a new facility to manufac-ture and supply up to 25,000 metric tons of paint to automobile manufac-turers that are expanding into south and central China, a Business Wire news release reports. The plant, which will be close to customers in the Shanghai area and have easy access to major transportation routes reaching into western and southern areas of the country, will be dedicated to produc-tion of Axalta Coating Systems’ water-borne coatings that meet both manu-facturer and regulatory environmental standards. Pending fi nal government approvals, construction of the new facility is expected to break ground in the second half of 2013 with produc-tion beginning in 2015.

Keynote speakers from FIAT Group presented on design and decorative trivalent chromium. The seminar concluded with a visit to the Ferrari production and test track facilities as well as the Ferrari Museum. In attendance were key OEM and Tier 1 suppliers.

Enthone and Volkswagen (VW) recently hosted an automotive technol-ogy seminar in Shanghai, China. The seminar focused on zinc-nickel plating systems specially formulated for brake calipers, fasteners and other automo-tive components, as well as best prac-tices to meet OEM specification requirements. The event drew more than 40 leading tier suppliers.

Ms. Zhang Juxiang, labor surface technology manager, Shanghai Volkswagen, was the featured speaker. Ms. Zhang presented an overview of VW’s specifi cations and detailed the benefi ts of using a specifi ed corro-sion-resistant coating as proven by actual fi eld experience.

Ms. Amy Tsang, Enthone Asia tech-nical director, and Mr. Rex Man, Enthone industry marketing manager, presented innovations in corrosion-resistant coatings that address emerg-ing trends, issues and automotive OEM requirements.

Intech Services, in conjunction with the Iowa Waste Reduction Center at the University of Northern Iowa, is pleased to present the Virtu-alPaint® Training Program for DuPont Liquid Fluoropolymer Coat-ings, slated for Sept. 26. This interac-tive one-day training program allows attendees to improve their spraying

technique, fi lm thickness, and trans-fer effi ciency in a virtual spray envi-ronment, eliminating any waste asso-ciated with spray application training. Unlike conventional spray training courses, this hands-on pro-gram will allow attendees far greater opportunities to work on their appli-cation technique with almost limit-less part geometries to coat.

OBITUARYTechnic Founder, Alfred M. Weis-berg, died Thursday, May 9, 2013, after a long illness. He was 86.

Mr. Weisberg was the husband of Naida (Deitch) Weisberg for 63 years. He was born and grew up in Provi-dence, R.I., a son of the late Mark and Rose (Brie) Weisberg. Mr. Weisberg was a graduate of Harvard University in Chemistry and served in the Navy during WWII.

Weisberg was the devoted father of David Weisberg and his wife Jing of Warwick, Abby Ribbans and her hus-band Peter of East Greenwich, and daughter Martha, who predeceased him. He was also the loving grandfa-ther of John and Max Ribbans and Andrew Weisberg.

Mr. Weisberg was the owner and ex-president of Technic, Inc. head-quartered in Cranston, R.I. In addi-tion to his duties at Technic, he had served as president of the Interna-tional Precious Metals Institute and was the official historian of the American Electroplaters and Surface Finishers Society. A music lover, gar-dener and lifelong collector of jokes, Mr. Weisberg published extensively on the subject of electroplating and had, over the years, held numerous patents in the fi eld. He had also been a member of the Corporation of the Providence Public Library and Exec-utive Director of the Providence Jew-elry Museum.
