Conversations About RaceOn Monday, our Conversations About Race group came to the tableto discuss and respond to last week's events. Protests broke out inMinneapolis over the police killing of Jamar Clark, and in Chicago, video was released of the police killing of Laquan McDonald. The violence has uncovered the dehumanization of persons of color, the difficult job of law enforcement officers, and the systemic racial

injustice and violence in our neighborhoods, Cincinnati, across ourcountry, and around the world. We are asking the entire district to pray for an end to violence thisThanksgiving and beyond. Click here for a foldable prayer card. Please print it out, fold it, and place it on your table to be remindedto pray throughout this Advent season. Or, click here for the text.

New to the ORV from Nebraska in 2013,Rev. Dr. Raponzil Drake of St. PaulCommunity, has this to share regardingCultural Competency: "I was invited to the "Table" to share inthe rich conversations and eventualactions designed to name, own, grieve, and ameliorate the brokenness in ourcommunities around relationships withour local police departments. These arenot easy conversations for anyone in ournation, but are particularly weighted ingreater Cincinnati. There is no slack for

any of us at the table given the immense solidity of this particularbrokenness." continue reading
