Principal’s Report
Tournament of Minds
This Year some of our Stage 3 students will be
participating in the Tournament of Minds School
Challenge. The Tournament of Minds is a competition
that develops student’s enthusiasm for risk taking,
problem finding and solving. Depending on the
discipline, selected teams will work together for 6
weeks without any assistance to develop a creative way
to communicate their solutions to a panel of judges. To
prepare for the competition the students will need
assistance with gathering and sourcing a variety of
materials and resources. If you are able to assist, I have
included a list of the type of resources needed later in
this Newsletter. There will be a box in the office to
drop off items.
School Website
Our school website has now been updated. It now has
current school and departmental information,
including permission notes, newsletters and current
photos of the events that have taken place within the
school. This has been a huge job updating our very
tired looking website, with many hours spent on it. A
big thank you goes to Miss Carrie Turnbull from our
school office for doing this job for us. Please take some
time to look at and familiarise yourself with this
webpage, as all school information can be found there.
Our other forms of communication and school
information is sent home using the skoolbag app and
the P&C closed Facebook page. I recommend that you
use these communication tools.
Caring for our students
This week all of our staff stayed behind for a 3 hour
professional learning session to update our CPR and
Anaphylaxis practical skills. These sessions are
completed by staff every year, as well as online training
in emergency care and anaphylaxis. It is vitally important
that parents provide us with up-to-date information
regarding any health issues for their child. In particular
any children with asthma or allergies must have an
updated health care plan. This also includes ensuring
that emergency contact details are kept up to date in
case we have to call.
School Appreciation
All staff and students at Junee North would like to
extend our personal thanks and appreciation to our
wonderful and caring families that take the time to
help out our students and our school. Again a big
thank you to Mya and Montana and their families for
the kind donation of new tags for the league tag team
and a big thank you to all the parents and family
members who kindly help out with transport to take
our students to sporting and extra curriculum activities.
Our appreciation also goes out to Mrs Lizzie Lemmich
and Mrs Cherie Smith for taking time out of their day
to get our vegetable patches back up and running, all
stocked up with a Winter crop of vegetables. Thank
you to Junee High School for the kind donation of
vegetable seedlings to plant. We do truly have great
and caring students, teachers and parents, all helping
to make Junee North such a great place to be. Thank
you!
Lunches
Many students are turning up to school regularly
without food for the day which greatly affects the way
they function and learn for the day. We can cater for
the occasional emergency but it is vital that students
are provided with the right amount of food for the day.
Please assist us with this concern by checking that your
child has packed their food for the day.

Debating
Last Wednesday (5th June) the Junee North Debating
team travelled to Coolamon Central School for a
debating gala day. Our teams were Lightning (Ruby
Lemmich, Kailyn Harris, Caitlyn Payne, Caitlyn Mudge
and Amy Jarrett) and Thunder (Tristan Davis, Aimee
White, Micah Kemp, Destini Shepherd and Makayla
Cameron).
Our first debate was Thunder vs Lightning and our topic
was All kids, Year 5 and above should get a paid job one
afternoon a week. A coin toss determined that Thunder
was affirmative, while Lightning took the negative side.
Lightning won the debate by 3 points.
In the second debate Thunder took on the Illabo 1 team.
Again, Thunder were affirmative. The topic was All sport
in school should be replaced with class work. They found
it hard talking positively about something they
disagreed with! Illabo won the debate.
Lightning took on Coolamon Crusaders. Their topic was
All children under 18 must participate in weekend sport.
Lightning took the negative side to the argument and
came away with the win.
Both teams, and the teacher, took away valuable advice
on how to improve our public speaking and debating
skills. We will compete against the other Illabo and
Coolamon teams in early Term 3, this time hosting the
debates.
Cross Country
On Friday 31st May, 38 students represented Junee
North at the District PSSA Cross Country in Harden. This
is a tough track with 3 hills, as well as creeks, bridges
and trotting tracks to compete with. Despite the cold,
wet conditions, students ran well, with most students
coming in the top 15 in their age groups.
Congratulations to Kaden Shaw (10 years) and Claire
O’Rafferty (11 years) who both ran 4th in their age group
and will represent our school and the district at Regional
level, to be held at Gundagai later this term.
Breakout kits with Mr Fellows - JHS
Mr Fellows from Junee High School has been working
with the Stage 1 students to introduce the Breakout
Kits, used to promote team work, planning and
problem solving skills.
