ATTENDANT LICENSE The attendant should posses a valid conductor’s license If there are only girls on the bus, there should be a woman attendant The driver of the school bus should have experi- ence of at least five years in a vehicle belonging to a similar category The driver should undergo a skill test in the presence of the school-level transport commit- tee once a year The driver must maintain a log book and point out any defect noticed on a day-to-day basis The driver should not have been challaned for speeding, drunken driving or a fatal accident THE ATTENDANT THE DRIVER THE BUS The bus should be of a semi-saloon type with steel body The entrance should be well-maintained to ensure safe locking and easy unlocking The foot-board should be at a height not exceeding 250 mm from the ground and fitted with non-slip treads It should be painted completely in yellow The inscription “School Bus” should be painted on the front and rear top of the vehicle The name of the school should be written at the top of the front and rear ends, and on both sides of the body of the vehicle A first-aid box should be provided and replaced periodically INFOGRAPHIC: PRATHAP RAVISHANKAR It is mandatory to have trained attendants to take care of the schoolchildren NEW RULES, NEW ROLES
