Our journey of a thousand miles began with a single step we took together says Hemant and Smitha Sahela, Amway’s newest Diamond IBOs and what a memorable journey it has been for this couple who started their Amway business in 2003.

“I came to Australia as an Indian student to study a Masters in Accounting 12 years ago,” reminisces Hemant. He didn’t know anyone in Sydney but was determined to pay down a student loan of AUD 50,000 before he completed his degree. “I needed to earn an extra $500 per week and was searching for a way to achieve this,” he says. Hemant was introduced to Amway by his elder brother who was building his own business in USA at the time. “Initially I was skeptical and not at all open minded about what was on offer, but when Anurag reached Platinum level in his business, I decided to give it a shot.”

“Even though the joining fee was only $200, I started building the business with the mindset that it was, in fact, a two million dollar investment, and planned it meticulously. Though I made many mistakes on the way, the important thing was I kept learning and became better at sharing the business with people especially after my first team member joined,” explains Hemant. “People often say failure is undesirable, but in fact it’s failing many times over that has led to our success,” he says.

In 2006, Hemant achieved Platinum level, got married to wife Smitha and she joined the business all in the same year. “She didn’t really have a choice”, he laughs, “when we got married the business already existed and it was a natural decision for her to join me in running it.”

While the couple worked part-time in their business and had full time corporate jobs, they soon made a decision to become full time business owners especially after Smitha resigned from her corporate analyst job while pregnant with their first child. Hemant also left his Accounting job upon reaching Emerald level in 3.5 years.

“The biggest benefits we have enjoyed from building our Amway business is seeing our children grow up before our eyes and gaining flexibility in how we spent our days,” say Hemant and Smitha. Owning a flexible business meant they got to share in their children’s milestones and build a successful business in their own time.

“Having choices and living a life of significance are two important things our Amway business has given us,” says this enthusiastic entrepreneur. “We’re excited to get up every morning to face a new day, knowing we’re building a legacy for our children and helping others to achieve their dreams too. We’re filled with a sense of purpose and that’s a pretty wonderful way to live your life!”

August (Hararei) and Dionne MateneIn 2008, August and Dionne Matene ‘jumped the ditch’, a colloquial expression that describes Kiwi’s moving across the Tasman from New Zealand to live in Australia.

It was a leap of faith taken in the knowledge that starting again with a young, growing family would have its challenges. The couple was hoping to build a new life with their family and this included seeking a business opportunity that would support their desire to spend more time with their children.

The couple had run two traditional businesses in the past and knew many of the risks associated with starting a venture from the ground up. Amway proved to be different and has been a fantastic fit for the couple who now run the business alongside bringing up their four boys and their daughter.

For August and Dionne, eSPRING® and ARTISTRY® play a big part in their business and their lives.

“After we moved here from NZ we would only drink bottled water,” explains August. They then installed an eSPRING unit and now drink 2-3 litres a day”.

Nothing is more important than having personal passion and belief in the products you sell and for Dionne it is the pure quality of ARTISTY that allows it to “sell itself”.

The couple agree that they really love helping others to believe in themselves and in their own dreams. “Being able to see others achieve their goals and receive the recognition they deserve is the most rewarding aspect of the business,” said August.

The ability of August and Dionne to help take others with them on the Amway journey is supported by the fantastic training that comes with starting the business.

“Training is by far the best of any business we’ve been involved in. We also get great support from the staff at the Loganholme Centre who are always informative and ready to help. They are the most amazing bunch of people, always accessible and approachable. We are so blessed to have them assist us” said Dionne.

The couple encourage IBOs that are starting out to persevere and stay focused. “Know what you want from a business like this and you can definitely get the results with hard work,” said August.

Today, August and Dionne have their sights set on getting to the next level and ensuring they can continue to enjoy time with their five beautiful children.

Davin Yee Foo Tan & Siek (Angie) NgAngie arrived in Australia from Malaysia in 2012 with her husband, son and daughter. Their family expanded with a new baby boy two years ago, and Angie admits that they shared some tough times being far from home, friends and family.

Yet, she believes that things happen for a reason, and not spontaneously but because of your decisions and your will. Once the family set their thoughts on how to start building a better life for themselves, things began to fall into place and this included getting their Amway business up and running.

“We are ordinary people with big dreams” said Angie. “In Amway, we found a business opportunity that helped us learn and grow, and gave us infinite hope.”

“We always believe and tell ourselves ‘we can do it’. Now, everything has settled down for us, we have changed all the impossible into possible,” said Angie.

Angie now enjoys helping others that are also hoping to make their lives better. She is inspired when she explains the concept of passive income to people she meets, helping them to understand that her continual focus, hard work and commitment now could help create an ongoing income stream.

Today, Angie’s Amway business is building in both Australia and Malaysia and the family benefit from a steady level of income as a result.

Angie is very grateful for the support provided to her team by her upline leaders, whose advice in guiding the development of her business has been a blessing.

For the future, Angie is very excited about attending Achievers 2016 in Hawaii and looks forward to meeting business leaders there. She is also very motivated to head to Las Vegas for the Amway 60th Anniversary celebrations.

Ross and Cindy JonesRoss and Cindy Jones grew up in the Illawarra and left school early, taking many different jobs over the years. From working in daycare to operations management, from funeral directing to IT contracting, Ross and Cindy can honestly say they have tried their hands at many different roles and career paths in their rich and diverse working lives.

After developing a successful franchise, the couple realised they had seen just about everything and were confident they knew what was needed to have a perfect business.

“The perfect business needs to come with low risk, you like what you do and you benefit from great rewards that are preferably not limited,” explains Ross.

In their considerable experience, most businesses don’t have some, or all, of these elements. There is considerable outlay and risk, a huge amount of effort and very moderate reward for many years.

The difference in the Amway business is there is low risk invested to start up and the rewards are great. Ross does note however that personal growth and development are needed to be truly successful and this pushes people outside their comfort zone. Yet as he puts it, “the good thing is that I learned to love that. That’s when I knew I had a perfect business.”

The couple is particularly focused on health and wellbeing and love the NUTRIWAY products. “We use them ourselves and are delighted to recommend them to everybody.”

Ross and Cindy say the Amway journey has given them so much more than additional income. “The most rewarding aspect of the business is who you become. For us, this has been far and away more valuable than anything else.”

Jatupol Tangjidsathienporn & Pannipa OnkhaoGrowing up in Thailand, there was always a dream for Jatupol and Pannipa of a better life and for this couple, owning their own business was the key.

Jatupol and Pannipa were originally introduced to Amway by a friend and, having qualifications in marketing, HR and financial management, they immediately saw the potential for the business. Their encounter with a Founders Crown and Crown couple also from Thailand helped them to realise the truly global opportunity they were now part of with Amway.

“We knew this was our chance to have our dream, not having to spend 40 years behind a desk,” said Jatupol.

Launching the business did not come without its challenges and Jatupol is open about the fact they miss stepped the first time.

“With all the best intentions and advice, this business still requires a change in behaviour to be successful, no matter what the endeavour. We spent the first six months of the business struggling to coming to terms with the challenges of being a successful IBO,” he said.

Fast forward another 13 months and Jatupol and Pannipa are now very comfortable in their Amway skin.

Although they had a few hurdles, the couple see this as an opportunity to offer others the benefit of the tough lessons they learned. “It is important to push yourselves, and step outside your comfort zone,” said Pannipa, who also noted they actively encourage those new to the business to use the Amway training and marketing tools.

One thing that has never proven challenging for Jatupol and Pannipa is believing in the products. The couple focus heavily on NUTRIWAY® and ARTISTRY®. They agree that using the products every day means their customers can see their absolute confidence in the products, and the outcomes also.

“You really must be your own demonstration,” explains Pannipa. “If you want to do your own marketing, especially for skincare, you have to know how it works. You are the result of the products you use.”

Jatupol and Pannipa have committed their focus to making the next level of success with Amway and are aiming for Emerald within the next 12 months. They have already gained so much, the freedom to have work life balance, travel and additional income and are looking forward to achieving even more together.

Sam (Yuxi) Ou and Sarah (Fan) WangSam and Sarah’s decision to move to Australia meant leaving friends and family behind to start a fresh life together. Sarah arrived in 2006 and worked as a draftsperson for a local engineering firm. Sam followed a year later applying his degree in Logistics and Engineering to a number of roles.

They worked long hours trying to get ahead before a chance meeting with an Amway IBO made them consider whether there was another way. In 2013, after being loyal purchasers of Amway products for two years, Sam and Sarah decided it was time to build.

Without the benefit of a wide family network to draw on and only five friends in Australia, the couple needed to maintain a positive mindset and focus to build their business.

Today, Sam and Sarah have over 200 people in their business and now focus on the business full time.

Sam and Sarah agree the personal and professional rewards from Amway have been amazing. They’ve been able to help friends experiencing dissatisfaction with their skin, and have delighted their ‘foodie’ friends with the benefits of using iCOOK®. Vikki Baltussen - eSPRING® Sales

Vikki Baltussen is a single mother of two adult daughters, who has always loved drinking H20 but could never reconcile with the odd smell and taste of city tap water.

“Mostly I purchased water in bottles and in bulk” she notes, which presented quite a cost impost. However, after joining Amway, Vikki purchased an eSPRING and was singularly impressed by the technology.

“I was astonished at how clean the smell was and how sweet it tasted. I loved it so much I recommended it to my family and friends.”

Today, Vikki generates a good portion of her sales from eSPRING. She has no compunction about

leaving an eSPRING unit with people for a few days so they can experience the difference in the drinking water, and consider the cost savings compared to buying it bottled.

Two of the best tools in her sales kit are downloads from the website and also the eSPRING mini model. She likes using this to help generate further discussion.

Vikki encourages others to be focused on their strategy for building their business around specific product sets. “Focus, and be consistent in what you do. When I have built the business with focus, I have seen better results.”

Diana and Nic Kikos - ARTISTRY® Sales

Passion and enthusiasm are what make successful people and businesses. That is why Diana and Nic have been able to work full time on Amway since 2004. Their success with ARTISTRY has come from nearly 16 years of specialising in the product, focusing on facials and skin care and ensuring their clients love what they do.

After running a business of their own for a number of years it was in 2000 that Nic showed Diana the Amway business as a way to provide some flexibility in their lives. The major appeal for Diana was being with their children, taking them to primary school and not working a traditional 9-5 role.

Less than four years after starting Nic and Diana were working full time on their Amway business. Diana’s passion to help the client first is what makes the

business, as she says “the money comes from being passionate about what you do”.

Investing in a skin analysis machine, using the science of ARTISTRY and knowledge gained from a trip to Michigan, Diana can explain the research behind the products and how they can uniquely help each customer. Diana spends her time focussed on Artistry and doing facials. This leads to referrals, an interest in the product and often new IBOs.

Her key message is: “be persistent, create patterns of success, focus on the tasks at hand and remove all the negative thinking.”

Even though their family think they are crazy they would not have it any other way. With passion, the plan to become Emerald and a thriving retail business, we certainly think they are a massive success!

Both Kash and Wendy have full time professional careers but their goal is for their Amway business to grow enough to allow them to spend more time with their families.
