NBU 7 Licensing Policy Changes – Virtualized Environments

• NetBackup 6.5:

– A Standard or Enterprise Client license is required for each guest operating system type per host server

– An Application and Database Pack license is required for each guest operating system type and application type combination per host server

• NetBackup 7:

– A single Standard or Enterprise Client license is required for each host server regardless of the number of guest operating systems types

– A single Application and Database Pack license is required for each host server regardless of the number of guest application types

– When host servers are clustered, each host node must be licensed


NBU 7 Licensing Policy Changes – Server Tiering

• Enterprise Client, App & DB Pack, Media Server Encryption Option, NBU Server and Enterprise Server are license on a tiered server basis

• 6.5 Policy

– Tiers for Windows, Linux and Solaris x64 are assigned based on the maximum number of CPUs that can be populated on the machine

– Tiers for UNIX are assigned for each server model number

NETBACKUP STANDARD CLIENT

• Licensed per client protected by NetBackup; no server/hardware tiering is required.

• This license entitles protection of a server with a traditional NetBackup client and NetBackup PureDisk client Please note that to enable deduplication, the Duplication Option must be licensed

• License also entitles usage of either Bare Metal Restore or NetBackup Client Encryption capabilities; however, these two components can not be used together on the same system.

NETBACKUP ENTERPRISE CLIENT

• Licensed per tiered server, dependent upon the populated number of processor sockets

• This license can be deployed to accomplish:

• Client-based snapshot (host or array) for file systems, applications, or databases via NetBackup Snapshot Client, SAN style backups via SAN Media Server, and SAN style backup via SAN Client

• Advanced VMware Features – Granular File Recovery, VMware vStorage related features such as block-level incremental, and off-host backups

• Advanced Microsoft Hyper-V Features – Granular File Recovery, off-host backup

• NetBackup Enterprise Client is licensed per system (on a tier basis) and is ideal for systems requiring high performance, low impact protection. The Enterprise client only functions with the NetBackup Enterprise Server.

NETBACKUP OPTION SHARED STORAGE OPTION

• Licensed per individual tape drive, stand-alone or in a robotic tape library

• This license is in addition to any required NetBackup Library Based Tape Drive licenses. If the shared device is not included in a tape library, then only the SSO license is required.

• The Shared Storage Option is not needed when used with the Virtual Tape Option, which is included with the Enterprise Disk license

NETBACKUP OPTION VAULT BASE

• Licensed per Master Server / Server and four (4) physical tape drives.

• NetBackup Vault requires a license for each physical tape drive in physical tape libraries used as the source or destination for Vaulting. NetBackup Vault is licensed per NetBackup Storage Domain (i.e., one NetBackup Enterprise Master Server or NetBackup Server) and includes four NetBackup Vault physical tape drive licenses

• If more than four physical tape drives are used in the libraries, a NetBackup Vault Additional Drive license would be required for each drive
