FERDERBAR HOSTS JUMP FOR HEART
During the week of February 10th -14th, Ferderbar Elementary School students participated in the “Jump
Rope for Heart.” This is a national fundraising event sponsored by the American Heart Association and the
American Alliance for Physical Education, Health, Recreation and Dance. This program engages elementary
school children in the physical activity of jumping rope while raising funds to support lifesaving heart and
stroke research and education.
The festivities included a “kick-off” assembly that featured The American Heart Association and the 3rd, 4th
and 5th grade jump rope teams from Ferderbar. The teachers and school staff also participated in the
jumping! During the assembly students enjoyed watching the jump rope demonstration as well as learning
about how to keep their heart healthy.
During the event, K-5 students raised money and participated in a variety of jumping activity stations in their
Physical Education classes. The school community purchased "hearts" that were displayed in the school lobby
and also got donations to help the American Heart Association. The school community was able to raise
$3,981.35, which is more than double the amount raised last year!
The event was coordinated by Mrs. Clement, the P.E. teacher, and the school nurse, Mrs. Dempsey. Thank
you to all the parents from the Home and School Association and staff that helped to make Ferderbar’s “Jump
Rope for Heart” a great success!
