The Huskers are looking to continue their climb up the Big Ten standings this weekend. Nebraska moved up two spots from seventh place to fifth in the conference standings after sweeping Northwestern in a three-game road series last weekend. Nebraska is aiming to earn a top-four finish which would give the Huskers a bye for the Big Ten Tournament for the fourth year in a row. Nebraska has an uphill climb to earn a bye, however. With a 9-5 record in Big Ten play, the Huskers are in fifth place in the standings, behind fourth-place Ohio State (9-4-1), second-place Minnesota and Penn State (11-3) and league leader Michigan (12-2). Nebraska posted a perfect record last week for only the second time this season. Nebraska has finished with a .500 record or better in nine of the first 10 weeks this season. The Huskers have won five straight Big Ten Conference road games after starting 1-3 on the road in league play. Nebraska has won 12 of its last 13 Big Ten Conference series (three-game series only), and the Huskers are 31-10 on the road in conference play since the start of the 2013 season. Nebraska has scored 63 runs in its last five Big Ten road games (12.6 runs per game). TWO HUSKERS TO WATCH One of only five pitchers nationally with at least 15 wins and 5 saves, Cassie McClure (16-6 record, 5 saves) is also one of only seven pitchers who rank in the top 30 nationally in wins and saves. Kiki Stokes, the reigning Big Ten co- Player of the Week, is hitting .467 in conference play with 11 extra-base hits, 11 walks, 13 RBIs and 21 runs in Nebraska’s 14 conference games. THIS WEEK’S TOP 10 Nebraska has defeated three of the top nine teams in this week’s NCAA RPI (No. 2 Michigan, No. 6 James Madison and No. 9 Oregon). Nebraska needs two wins this weekend to record its eighth straight 30-win season and its 18th in the last 19 seasons. Minnesota is the only team with a winning all-time Big Ten conference record against Nebraska (6-5). Nebraska’s Kiki Stokes and Minnesota’s Sara Groenewegen were named Big Ten co-Players of the Week on Monday. MJ Knighten ranks in the top 15 nationally in home runs (4th), runs (8th), RBIs (12) and slugging percentage (15th). Not only do the Huskers trail those four teams, Nebraska also has the most challenging remaining schedule among the top five contenders for a bye. Including this weekend, Nebraska’s remaining three conference opponents are 25-16-1 in league play. Ohio State’s final three opponents are a combined 16-25, while Minnesota’s final three opponents - which includes Nebraska - are just 14-26. Michigan and Penn State still have to play each other but even counting the head-to-head matchup, Penn State’s remaining conference opponents are 19-23 in Big Ten play, while the Wolverines’ remaining three opponents are 16-22. Nebraska is also looking to improve its NCAA Tournament resume, although NU is in a solid position after moving up to No. 30 in the NCAA RPI.

A total of four Huskers are returning all-region selections, which ties for the most returning all-region players in program history.

The returning all-region players include two-time honorees Emily Lockman and Cassie McClure and 2015 selections MJ Knighten and Kiki Stokes.

Five Huskers are returning all-conference selections, which ties for the second-most returning all-conference players in school history.

The returning all-conference players include three-time All-Big Ten selection Emily Lockman, two-time honorees Alicia Armstrong and MJ Knighten, 2015 All-Big Ten pick Kiki Stokes and Cassie McClure, a 2014 All-Big 12 selection at Texas Tech.

Nebraska’s captains this spring are seniors Alicia Armstrong, Mattie Fowler and Kiki Stokes. The trio are serving as captains for the second straight season.

Fowler has served as a team captain each of the last four seasons, becoming the first four-time captain in school history.

Nebraska’s 2016 roster consists of 19 players, which ties for the third-largest roster in school history.

Sixteen of Nebraska’s 19 players are returners. The Huskers’ 16 returning players are tied for the most returners under Rhonda Revelle (1993-present).

Despite featuring the highest number of returning players under Revelle, NU still features a youthful roster in 2016. Ten of the Huskers’ 19 players are freshmen or sophomores.

Nebraska features five pitchers on its roster, marking the first time since 1997 that NU has had a five-pitcher rotation.

The Husker roster features eight Nebraska natives, tying for the program’s most in-state players since softball became an NCAA sport in 1982.

SERIES STORYLINES• Battle of No. 24: Minnesota is ranked 24th in this week’s

NFCA coaches’ poll, while Nebraska is ranked 24th in this week’s ESPN.com/USA Softball poll. The Gophers are also ranked in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll at No. 23, while Nebraska is second among the teams also receiving votes in the NFCA poll.

• Two of Big Ten’s Best: Since Nebraska joined the Big Ten Conference in 2012, the Huskers and Golden Gophers have been two of the league’s top teams. Nebraska has won 74 conference games since 2012, while Minnesota has won 71 games. Only Michigan (87) has won more Big Ten games over the last five years than Nebraska or Minnesota. Both Nebraska and Minnesota also claimed a Big Ten title in 2014, with the Huskers sharing the regular-season title with Michigan and the Golden Gophers defeating the Wolverines for the Big Ten Tournament title.

• Nebraska Nemesis: Minnesota has been Nebraska’s nemesis since the Huskers joined the Big Ten Conference in 2012. Minnesota is 7-5 against Nebraska since the Huskers joined the Big Ten, including a 6-5 record in conference play. The Golden Gophers are the only Big Ten team with a winning conference record against Nebraska. Minnesota (three series victories) is the only Big Ten team to win more than one conference series against Nebraska, while the Huskers have yet to win a three-game series against the Golden Gophers (0-3 with a mid-week doubleheader sweep in 2013).

• Huskers vs. Groenewegen: Sara Groenewegen is 2-1 against Nebraska in her career, but the Husker hitters have done some damage against the Golden Gopher ace. MJ Knighten has had the most success against Groenewegen among current Huskers, as she is 4-for-10 (.400) with one double, one homer and four RBIs.

200-HIT TEAMMATESSeniors Alicia Armstrong and Kiki Stokes have each totaled more than 200 career hits. Armstrong ranks eighth in Husker history with 214 hits, while Stokes is ninth with 213 hits.

• Armstrong and Stokes are two of only 11 players in school history to total 200 career hits.

• Nebraska has a pair of teammates who each boast 200 career hits for only the second time in program history.

• Armstrong and Stokes are also looking to end their careers among an elite quartet of four-year Huskers who have averaged 1.0 or more hit per game in their careers.

• Junior MJ Knighten owns 188 hits and could give NU three players in the lineup with 200 career hits.

SENIOR HITTERS PRODUCINGEach of Nebraska’s four senior hitters have been highly productive this season.

• Three of NU’s top four batting averages are held by a senior. Kiki Stokes is first (.412), Mattie Fowler is third (.328) and Alicia Armstrong is fourth (.324).

• The seniors are hitting .348 as a group, while the rest of the Husker roster owns a collective .272 average.

KNIGHTEN & STOKES CHASING .400 AGAINAfter both players hit .400 in 2015, senior Kiki Stokes and junior MJ Knighten are chasing the mark again this spring.

• Last season, Stokes and Knighten became only the third and fourth Huskers to hit .400 in a season.

• The duo is looking to join three-time All-American Ali Viola and two-time All-American Tobin Echo-Hawk as the only Huskers to hit .400 in more than one season.

• Last year, Stokes and Knighten joined Ali Viola and Tobin Echo-Hawk (1995) as the only Husker teammates to both hit .400 in the same season. If Stokes and Knighten can each hit .400 again this season, they would become the first pair of Husker teammates to both hit .400 in more than one season.

• Stokes ranks third in the Big Ten with a .412 average, while Knighten is ninth with a .397 average.

• Stokes’ .412 average would currently be the fifth-highest average in school history, while Knighten’s .397 average currently ranks ninth.

KNIGHTEN HOMERING AT RECORD RATEJunior MJ Knighten ranks in a tie for fourth nationally with 17 home runs.

• Knighten ranks in a tie for fourth in school history with her 17 home runs, the highest total by a Husker junior.

• Knighten has homered 17 times in 42 games after hitting 14 homers over 120 games in her first two seasons combined.

• Knighten’s 17 home runs are six more than any Husker hit in 58 games last season, and it took Knighten only 17 games to surpass any player’s total from 2015.

• Knighten has hit only two home runs in her last 15 games, but she has drawn 18 walks in those 15 games.

• At her current pace, Knighten would finish with 21 home runs in Nebraska’s 52 scheduled regular-season games. The NU season record is 22 homers by Ali Viola in 1998.

• Knighten is seventh on NU’s all-time homer chart (31).

• Nebraska set a school record with 23 RBIs and finished with 21 hits, one shy of the school record.

• NU scored 11 times in the second inning, the second-most runs the Huskers have ever scored in one inning of a conference game. The record is a 14-run second inning against Iowa on April 12, 2014 at Bowlin Stadium.

• Seven Huskers finished with multiple hits, including six players with three hits each.

• Five Huskers finished with at least three RBIs, including a combined 17 RBIs from the top four hitters in the lineup.

LOCKMAN LOOKS TO ADD TO LEGACYSenior Emily Lockman has made her mark at Nebraska. As a freshman, Lockman recorded her first no-hitter faster than any pitcher in NU history. Three months later she earned the complete-game win at No. 3 Oregon that sent the Huskers to the 2013 Women’s College World Series.

In her second season, Lockman became the only Nebraska pitcher to earn first-team all-region accolades as both a freshman and sophomore. Last year, Lockman became just the fourth Husker pitcher to be recognized as an all-conference performer in each of her first three seasons. This season, Lockman looks to add to her legacy.

• Lockman and All-Americans Peaches James (2001-04) and Tatum Edwards (2011-14) are the only Nebraska pitchers to be a two-time first-team all-region selection.

• Lockman is also a three-time All-Big Ten selection. She looks to become just the fifth Husker pitcher to be a four-time all-conference honoree, joining Lori Sippel (1985-88), Jenny Voss (1997-2000), Peaches James (2001-04) and Tatum Edwards (2011-14).

• Lockman is one of only four pitchers nationally who has earned a pair of first-team all-region accolades.
