Thoughts from the President

The Chatmoss Experience is in full swing, with our members enjoying a glis-

tening pool, cabana treats, tennis and fitness events, world class golf, a lively

bar scene, and fun casual and fabulous formal dining options! Our manage-

ment and staff are again to be commended for all of their efforts in making Chat-

moss the finest country club in southwest Virginia! I also want to thank some

great friends of Chatmoss, who have donated their time , talents , and gifts over

the last few months. We have new pool umbrellas, new dining chairs in the Vir-

ginia room, a successful member work day, not to mention significant attention

to detail on painting, wallpaper, carpet, and many other areas. Thanks to all of

your acts of kindness to Chatmoss! Kudos also to our Event and House com-

mittee for raising the bar on all of our events. Fridays at Chatmoss are not to be

missed!

I want to again thank our membership committee for its efforts in retooling

our junior member program. This has resulted in several new members, and

additional plans are in place for a prospective junior member experience event

on June 26th.

A recent addition to our board is Debbie Toms, who will serve as Treas-

urer/Finance Committee Chair. Debbie is a long time member of our club and

we are very fortunate to have her on the Board!

On a very sad note, we mourn the loss of Steve Dashoff, a past President

and good friend. We will all miss Steve’s leadership and insight, and his genuine

interest in Chatmoss. He touched us all and will be sorely missed.

Thanks and see you at the club!

The first official day of summer is rapidly approaching as is the hottestweek of the pool season so far. The Chatmoss Pool opened with asplash for the 2015 season. If you haven’t had a chance to enjoy thepool, please stop by and spend the day with us! Many thanks to EricMonday for his tireless efforts and ongoing support. The pool looksmuch prettier this year thanks to the new umbrellas and knockout rosesdonated by the Monday Family!

My sincerest thanks also goes out to the Robertson Family for theirgenerous donation of Chairs for the clubhouse. In my entire career in Club Management, Ihave never experienced such generosity from the membership. So much goes into the dayto day operation of a first class club like Chatmoss and donations from such a supportivemembership are very much appreciated!

Please plan on spending the 4th of July with your Chatmoss Family. Chef Joe has a widearray of cook out favorites planned this year including Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, GrilledChicken, Ribs and so much more.

Last summer’s first Chatmoss Shrimp & Oyster fest was a huge success. We plan on a sec-ond one this summer on July 14th, Mark your calendars and make your reservations today!Reservations are greatly appreciated and help us not only have enough food but scheduleenough staff to give the membership the best possible service! Many other events are sched-uled to keep your summer busy. Please check the calendar and be on the lookout for Emma’sthroughout the summer.

Looking for something to keep the little ones occupied in July? We still have some openingsfor the July Summer Camp scheduled July 13-July 16th. The Camp is loaded with activitiesto keep the kids busy. Please visit our Website to download a registration form.

I just recently experienced the loss of someone very dear to me and shortly after learned ofthe passing of Mr. Dashoff. There are no words to express how loss will affect your life, butit is the impact they made in your life that we remember. The life that we have is very short. Please take time to enjoy your family and friends.

Looking forward to seeing everyone this summer,

First of all let me say this may be my shortest evernewsletter. Not that I don’t have a lot I could talk about butbecause we have so much to talk about that it has caused meto be very late getting started on this. The storm which hit uslate in the day on June 17 is easily the largest amount of stormdamage I have dealt with in the years I have been here. I amcertain though that we will get things back together very soon. The members involved with helping us through this have donea fantastic job. As soon as I got here to survey the damagethat evening, everyone has offered to help out in one way oranother. The member’s ………

Sorry, interrupted by a fire at the Cabana!! Unreal. In closing, thanks to all the members who volunteer your

time and expertise to help out with these crises. Even inchaotic circumstances it’s great to know as employees wehave steady leadership and we will get through anythingthrown our way.

Chatmoss Junior Club ChampionshipThe Chatmoss Junior Championship, formally known as the Henry County

Junior Championship, allowed for the first time in its 50 plus year history thatplayers outside of the county were able to compete.

However, it was only fitting that local player and Chatmoss regular, Wood-son Smith, hoisted the trophy after a two-day total of 1-under par 143 (72-71-143). Woodson is the son of long-time members Will and Susan Smith.Woodson has been a regular around Chatmoss since he was just a kid andmade Chatmoss proud to win this event.

The Henry County Juniors has produced some of the greatest golfers tocome out of the area. They include current mini-tour professionals Adam Webband Jack Adkins, as well as long-time mini tour veteran Jerry Wood. Currentmembers Bill Sibbick and Keith Decker also played in the junior tournamentwhere they both went on to have excellent college careers. Sibbick played hiscollege golf at UNC-Chapel Hill and Decker took his talents to Elon Collegewhere he led the team to an NIAI National Championship his Senior year.

Of all the tournaments in Virginia Decker has won, he never won theHenry County Juniors. He finished runner up four years in a row at ages 14,15, 16, and 17.

Burch, Hodges, Stone was the main sponsor for the event, with Chemi-cal Solutions, without their help in recent years this golf tournament with over50 years of tradition may have faded away. Robby Burton and Will Smith, wereboth junior golf standout in the mid-1990s, and both spearheaded the effort tokeep this junior tournament going.

More recent champions of the Henry County Juniors include Wes Smith,Basil Boyd, and Dylan Jensen. Jensen went on to be a stand out college golferat Longwood University; Smith a rising sophomore at James Madison Univer-sity, and Boyd currently attends Woodberry Forest.

Head Golf Professional Robert Weinerth has high hopes for the tourna-ments future and has it poised to grow bigger and bigger with each year as itcontinues to produce young golf talents in the area.

Junior Camp Big Success Kids are having a great time this month with Assistant Professional P.C. Wellsas he teaches them the basics of golf. The kids have enjoyed learning how toplay the game of golf as well as the occasional ‘range pick relay race’ that hasalso been a huge hit with the kids.

Tennis Fitness CenterSummer is always such a busy time for everyone, so it is tough

to find time to work out or even bring yourself to come inside toworkout unless you are escaping the heat. Classes are ongoing;and as always, the schedule is posted online as well as a weeklyemail outlining classes for the upcoming week is sent on Sundays. If you are not receiving these emails, please call the tennis pro shopso we can update our information.

Walking at least300 miles was Laura Hundley. Our big winner was Al Hundley whowalked a grand total of 411 miles. Keep up the great work and stayactive.

We are excited to be offering a new class this summer by anew instructor. The class is P90x and it is on Tuesdays at 11:15 inJuly. It is taught by Lori Puckett Strachan. Do not let the namescare you off. Lori offers many modifications to the moves, and itis a great work out. We are glad to add her to a great group of in-structors here at Chatmoss.

As school starts back up at the end of August, we look forwardto a busy schedule and fitness center as a new school begins andfall being right around the corner.
