ANYONE can play chess … children and adults, men and women, all shapes and sizes, beginners and experts.

ANYWHERE you’ve got a board, pieces and a willing opponent, chess can be played. Liberty Centers, patios, parks, living rooms, online, desert camps and mess decks are all great places to play chess.

ANYTIME’s the right time for chess. Because the game is so portable, it can be set up whenever you’ve got a spare moment, or you can participate in chess clubs and organized tournaments.

Interested in trying out for the Navy Chess Team? If you meet the following qualifications, you may be a contender:

Active Duty Must be on active duty in the U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard or U.S. Public Health Service

U.S. Chess Federation MemberMust be a member in good standing of the U.S. Chess Federation throughout the military chess season

U.S. Chess Federation RatingMust have an established U.S. Chess Federation rating

Command Support and AuthorizationMust have documented command authorization to participate in sanctioned Navy qualifying, interservice and/or NATO chess competitions A great way to start working on your U.S. Chess

Federation rating is to join a local chess club. You can find a listing of Navy MWR chess clubs at www.mwr.navy.mil, as well as a link to USCF club listings. Work on your strategy during regular club play and participate in local USCF-sanctioned tournaments to establish your rating.

Visit the Navy Chess Web page at www.mwr.navy.mil for information about when, where and how to qualify for the Navy Chess Team.
