Natura  2000  Biogeographical  Process

Fully  implement  the  Birds  and  Habitats  Direc9ve    Maintain  and  restore  ecosystems  and  their  services

Increase  the  contribu:on  of  agriculture  and  forestry  to  maintaining  and  enhancing  biodiversity

Ensure  the  sustainable  use  of  fisheries  resources

  Combat  Invasive  Aliens  Species

  Help  avert  global  biodiversity  loss

Working  in  collabora8on,  the  Process  &  the  LIFE  Programme  help  stakeholders  to  strengthen  the  Natura  2000  network  and  achieving

favourable  conserva8on  status  for  habitats  and  species.

Natura  2000  Biogeographical  Process

Natura  2000  &  the  Process    The  Process  is:

–  A  prac:cal  framework  for  netowrking  and  knowledge  building

The  process  involves:  –  Member  states  and  stakeholders

The  proces  aims  are:  –  Implementa9on  of  Natura  2000

–  Achieve  Favourable  Conserva9on  Status    By  means  of

–  Sharing    experiences  –  Crea:ng  coopera:ve  ac9ons.

Natura  2000  Biogeographical  Process

Key  steps  …

Steps   Outcomes  1   Where  are  we?   Know  what  prac:cal  measures  and  ac:ons  are  required  to

maintain  or  improve  habitats’  condi:on  and  status.

2   Agree  priori:es  for  progress   Common  problems  and  issues  defined  and  scope  for  coopera:ve  ac:ons  iden:fied.

3   Agree  what  we  need  to  do   Collabora:ve  ac:ons  for  shared  priori:es,  matched  by  commitments  to  act  on  the  priori:es  so  that  work  gets  done.

4   Agree  what,  when,  where  &  who  (where  possible)

Produce  a  :metable  of  follow-‐up  ac:ons  (or  a  :metable  to  confirm  the  proposed  ac:ons).

A  C  T

Network  &  Communicate:  Share  knowledge  and  best  prac:ce,  publish  results  of  networking  events

Through  workshops,  study  visits,  expert  mee:ngs  etc.  and  by  using  the  Natura  2000  PlaWorm  –  e.g.  share  news  about  your  projects,  your  experience,  ‘sign-‐up’  your  organisa:on/  yourself,  provide  a  news  ar:cle,  promote  available  guidance  etc.)

There  are  four  steps  involved  in  the  Process  to  achieve  specific  outcomes  …
