The projects have carried out a number of tests using low impact fishing systems such as circular hooks, acoustic monitoring system on nets and Turtle Excluder Devices (TEDs). Monitoring of the interaction between dolphins and fishing activities A number of dedicated seminars were organised and carried out by the Fishing Associations in 45 different fishing harbours. During the tutorials fishermen were shown the correct recovery procedures and wereeach given a Marine Turtle recovery manual. Furthermore, fishermen were provided with 250 kits containing the equipment for the correct recovery of injured animals. “Guidelines to reduce the interaction with fishing activities” have been produced, which contain technical guidelines, programmes, regulations and possible incentives to promote the use, at the national level, of low impact fishing gear. Promotion the use of low impact fishing devices for pelagic stingrays (circle hooks), Development of a system to reduce accidental captures of basking sharks, Implementation of a tag & release policy for sport fishing tournaments. between the conservation of carnivores and land uses, such as for grazing livestock. The project will follow on from a major management project financed by the Global Environment Facility and plans to establish a model to be reproduced in other similar areas of the Carpathians. To this end, a management team comprising all the local socio-economic players involved will be set up. Management prescriptions for the three large carnivores will be drawn up and a team of park keepers will ensure that they are applied. Conflicts between users will be analysed and the purchase of 157 ha of pastureland will make it possible to encourage natural prey into the area. An awareness campaign will be one of the main aspects of this project. All the socio-economic players of the park will be involved and an education programme will be devised for local schools.

Forests Various The project has developed a specific strategy to increase awareness on forest fires among tourists travelling to Mediterranean islands, areas particularly affected by fire events and including many Natura 2000 sites. .Multilingual video spots and printed material were developed. Tourists were firstly contacted by the campaign messages by video spots broadcasted on the ferries travelling to the different islands. Afterwards tourists were again contacted when reaching their final holiday destinations: summer camps, holiday houses and, partly, hotels.
