Paper Title: History of Western Philosophy : Ancient and Medieval
There will be two groups in this course : group ‘A’ (ancient period) and group
‘B’ (medieval period). Group ‘A’ consists of 70 marks and group ‘B’ consists of
30 marks.
Group A : Ancient Period
A brief introduction to Ancient Greek philosophy.
Philosophers of the period: from Thales to Anaxagoras, the Sophists, Socrates,
Plato and Aristotle.
Group B : Medieval Period
Transition from the ancient to the medieval period, characteristics of Medieval
Philosophy, Scholasticism.
Philosophers of the medieval period: St. Augustine, St. Anselm, St. Thomas
Acquinas.
