History of NSIC

y National Small Industries Corporation Ltd. (NSIC), an ISO 9001 certifiedcompany, since its establishment in 1955, has been working to fulfill its missionof promoting, aiding and fostering the growth of small scale industries andindustry related small scale services/business enterprises in the country.

y Over a period of five decades of transition, growth and development, NSIC hasproved its strength within the country and abroad by promotingmodernization, upgradation of technology, quality consciousness,strengthening linkages with large medium enterprises and enhancing exports -projects and products from small industries.

y NSIC operates through more than 120 offices, supported by a team of over 500professionals spread across the country. To manage operations in Africancountries, NSIC operates from its office in Johannesburg.

Marketing

Marketing, a strategic tool for business development, is critical to thegrowth and survival of small enterprises in today's intenselycompetitive market. NSIC acts as a facilitator to promote smallindustries products and has devised a number of schemes to support

small enterprises in their marketing efforts, both in an outside thecountry.

Consortia and Tender Marketing

Small Enterprises in their individual capacity face problems to procure

& execute large orders, which inhibit and restrict their growth. NSIC,accordingly adopts Consortia approach and forms consortia of unitsmanufacturing the same products, thereby easing out marketingproblems of SSIs. The Corporation explores the market and securesorders for bulk quantities.

Exhibitions and Technology Fairs

y To showcase the competencies of Indian SSIs and tocapture market opportunities, NSIC participates in selectInternational and National Exhibitions and Trade Fairsevery year

y Participation in these events exposes SSI units tointernational practices and enhances their businessprowess.

Buyer-Seller meets

y Bulk and departmental buyers such as the Railways,Defence, Communication departments and large companiesare invited to participate in buyer-seller meets to enrich SSIunit's knowledge regarding terms and conditions, qualitystandards, etc required by the buyer.

y These programmes are aimed at vendor development from

SSI units for the bulk manufacturers.

Financing Scheme

NSIC facilitates credit requirements of small enterprises in thefollowing areas-

Financing for procurement of Raw Material (Short term)

Financing for Marketing Activities (Short term)

Finance through syndication withBanks-In this NSIC makes arrangements of forwarding of the loanapplications of the interested small enterprises to the banks and sharesthe processing fee.

Technology is the key to enhancing a company's competitive advantage intoday's dynamic information age. Small enterprises need to develop andimplement a technology strategy in addition to financial, marketing andoperational strategies and adopt the one that helps integrate their operationswith their environment, customers and suppliers.
