Junior Honor
Society2018 Application

What is the
National Junior
Honor Society?• A national organization established to
recognize outstanding middle level students.
• Members demonstrate excellence in the areas
of scholarship, service,
leadership, character, and
citizenship.
Expectations of Members
•Maintain a 3.5 average.
•Continue to earn exemplary grades in all
of your classes.
•Challenge yourself to develop further
through active involvement in activities at Tohickon and your local community
If you are inducted this March, there is no service requirement for this school year
Next school year, you will be required to volunteer at two events, one of which must be an event at Tohickon.
The Application: Overview
• The student should complete all sections- not parents.
• Do not be modest. Include any information that you feel
demonstrates the necessary qualities.
• Completion of the application does not guarantee
induction into the NJHS.
• Please type or print neatly in ink. No pencil.
• If you wish to type your application, applications can be
found on Mr. Saska’s or Ms. McMahon’s websites.
Examples:In order to help you complete the best possible
application, view examples from past applications on the following slides. These
examples are meant to show you a widerange of application types. In other words, you
will see both “good” and “bad” examples.

Section 2: Leadership
Section 3: Community ServiceNote: Section three must have signatures of ADULT sponsors.
Section 4: Recognition and
AwardsPlease do not include actual awards or copies of awards.
Section 5: Essay
Section Five must be typed, on a separate sheet of paper, and no more than 500 words. Please be
sure your name is included on this page.

Who reviews
the application
and makes the
final decision?
A faculty council,
appointed by Mr. Marton,
will review your
application and give your
application a rating
The rating your
application receives
determines whether or not
you are accepted.
Completed applications are to be returned to the table outside Mr. Saska/Ms. McMahon’s
classrooms, Rooms 302 and 301, no later than
2:30 PM on Friday, March 2nd
Turning applications in earlier than March 2nd, although not a
requirement, is highly recommended!
Acceptance letters will be sent
by mid March
If you are accepted: If you are not accepted:
• Rehearsal for the Induction
Ceremony will be held
during school hours in the
weeks leading up to the
ceremony. Attendance is mandatory!
• The Induction Ceremony
will take place on
Wednesday, April 4th at
7:00 PM in the auditorium.
• Continue to do well
academically and keep
track of your activities,
service, etc.
• If you still have a 3.5 GPA
next February, you will
receive another application
in Advisory.
