INTRODUCTION

Libraries have social mission, which involve in providing collections and services to meet community’s information needs. They exist to serve communities. They

are the gateway to knowledge and facilitate environment for life long learning, independent decision making and cultural development of the individual and Nation. Digital India Programme of Govt. of India, which is to transform India into a digitally empowered society based on knowledge economy calls for a proactive role of Libraries & Information Centres to actively participate in this movement and provide information support. Modern Library & Information Centres can play an active role in transforming the Indian society into an enterprising one by providing learning spaces, maker spaces, access to Internet, access to numerous subscribed and free online resources and many more services. We should make Library & Information Centres (LIC) truly dynamic, so that more meaningful services can be provided through collaborative work, networking and resource sharing. Information as a common global commodity is delivered and shared through compatible systems with robust networks. It is our responsibility to bring about extensive and immense transformation in societies. Keeping these facts in view the organizers of this conference seek to provide a platform to people from all walks of life and bring them together to deliberate and debate the theme of the Conference for the larger good of the society.
