NATIONAL COLLEGE OF INFORMATICS ”MATEI BASARAB”

• National College of Informatics "Matei
Basarab" was established in September 1914 • The founder of the school is Professor Ion
Nisipeanu, who gathered around him special people, especially young teachers
• At first it was a regular school • In 2007 it becomes National College of Informatics „Matei Basarab"
• National College of Informatics is the best highschool in Valcea county and 32nd in Romania according to its results
• Most of our students intend to continue their studies in Higher Education (85% graduate from University)
Levels of our school: primary, secondary and high school Specializations: - Pedagogical profile (1 class) - Mathematics - computer science profile (advanced Informatics) (2 classes) - Natural sciences (advanced English) (1 class) - Philology - human and social sciences profile (advanced English) (1 class) Our school has about 2400 students between 6 and 19 years old and about 140 teachers, one headmistress and 3 deputy managers
School facilities: • 4 buildings • 80 Classrooms; • Seven laboratories; • Library • 1 gym; • 3 sport courts • Festivities hall - 300 seats • School medical office • Dentistry • European Project room
IMPACT
• In November 2014 we opened an Initiative Club for Youth, called IMPACT coordinated by the New Horizons Foundation in partnership with the Pro Vorbis Association.
• The IMPACT project is an educational model for active citizenship
• It develops activities of formal and informal education
• It encourages the young people to take initiative in solving the problems inside their communities.
• Informal education is used inside the club • Through projects and regular meetings the young people develop their knowledges, abilities and attitudes (values) • By combining work for community, learning and leisure, the young people of IMPACT become active citizens, leaders or social entrepreneurs, responsible and self-confident, ready to improve themselves and the community
Aspects of our activity • The National College of Informatics “Matei Basarab” promotes
an educational system based on quality • It is adapted to all levels of learning • Its purpose is to improve the level of skills and competences
of both teachers and students by offering opportunities for international mobilities and national and transnational cooperation between
education providers and other interested parts.
• Our teachers know how to forward their experience by organizing conferences, national and international competitions, cultural activities
• Our school has partnerships with educational institutions inside and outside the city who involves people with financial difficulties, old and abandoned people, children without parents
• “Planting Good Deeds in Romania”, the biggest national campaign of afforestation
based on voluntary work in 30 counties on the same day, took place on 14th November 2015, when 1,000,000 trees were planted on public non-productive fields
• Teachers together with our students are involved in this type of activities which
promote volunteer work.
“Volunteering is the best example for democracy. Volunteers represent LOVE in motion.”
• Our college has been a Certified Centre for ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) since October 2009.
• Starting with the academic year 2009 – 2010 all our students can have an ECDL License (Mathematics-Informatics profile)
• Most of our students take Proficiency Cambridge certificates (especially Natural sciences and Philology profile)
• As a result of having the best students in the county, we have many prizes gained by students in school Olympics and contests: golden medal in the International IT Tournament of Schumen, 4th place and silver medal at the National IT Olympics, bronze medal at the National Technology Olympics– now a student in Denmark
• A lot of students go to an university abroad
• Every year in November, the National College of Informatics“Matei Basarab” Rm. Valcea organizes the Regional IT Contest “Little Gates”, dedicated to students from 3rd to 9th grades. This year, it reached its 28-th edition. Also, the National Symposium “The Computer in the 21st Century” has already held its 9th edition.
