Winning the confidence of employers

National Apprenticeship Service

• 88% of employers who employ apprentices believe this leads to a more motivated and satisfied workforce

• 81% of consumers prefer to use a company that employs apprentices

• 83% of employers rely on their Apprenticeship programme to give them the skilled workers for the future

• 81% of businesses said apprentices helped to generate higher overall productivity

Apprenticeship Growth

National Apprenticeship Service

• Nationally there has been a 63% increase in the number of people starting an Apprenticeship, despite an unfavourable recruitment market

• Success Rates continue to improve year-on-year nationally above 77%

•According to the National Audit Office (Feb.’12) , every £1 of public investment in Apprenticeships delivers a return of £18 to the wider economy.

Apprenticeship Growth ……

•Over the last three years Apprenticeships frameworks have grown from 190 to over 250, and still growing

•Apprenticeship frameworks cover 1,200 job roles

•National Apprenticeship Service is responsible for all elements of the Apprenticeships which includes working closely with businesses.

•Apprenticeship recruitment is made easy for employers with free on-line advertising, training providers find the most suitable candidates for employers to interview.

AGE 16 to 24 – Employer Incentive

•On 16 November 2011 the Government announced the Youth Contract - a £1 billion package of support to encourage businesses with up to 1,000 employees to employ young people

•Pay the employers the full grant of £1500 13 weeks after the apprentice starts

•Employer can claim up to 10 grants (£15,000).

•An employer will be eligible for AGE if they have not employed an apprentice in the last 12 months.

AGE 16 to 24 – Eligibility

•Our aim is to support employers new to Apprenticeship delivery to offer NEW jobs in support of young people

•The employer must recruit a 16 to 24 year old who isliving in England and not in full-time education (at the same time as their Apprenticeship)

•The employer must be NEW to Apprenticeships and offering a new job
