lane w#en we saw so'e %#ildren +layin&
on a fro,en +ond) T#ey were only a"out se*en or eit years old
and t#ey were $i%$in& a foot"all
a"out on t#e i%e) T#ey $e+t slidin& a"out and lauin&
w#en t#ey fell o*er)
Suddenly we #eard a s#out) To our #orror one of t#e "oys I t#in$
#e was t#e youn&est #ad
fallen t#rou t#e i%e- .e #ad &one too far fro' t#e ed&e
of t#e +ond and t#e i%e was t#in and
"ro$e under #i') We i''ediately rus#ed o*er to #el+ "ut it was
too dan&erous to wal$ a%ross
t#e i%e) T#e little "oy was tryin& to %li'" out of t#e water
and s#outin& for #el+) My friend and I
ran to "orrow a ladder fro' a &arden near t#e +ond I +ut t#e
ladder on t#e i%e and %rawled *eryslowly and %arefully a%ross it
towards t#e "oy) .e #ad sto++ed tryin& to 'o*e now and was
/ust
#oldin& t#e ed&e of t#e i%e and %ryin&) I %aut #old
of #is #and and finally 'ana&ed to +ull #i'
out of t#e i%y water) 0u%$ily t#e "oy wasn1t #urt /ust *ery
fritened)
