The government considers technology to be a tool that is being used as a weapon against their country. Because of this, they restrict its use.

Being able to communicate with other people around the world gives Cubans information that the Cuban government doesn’t want its citizens to know.

Yoani Sanchez followed via Twitter the upheaval in Egypt that ultimately led to the ouster of President Hosni Mubarak and responded with her own tweets."What a great lesson the Egyptians are giving us!" she wrote.Sanchez has won a huge global audience with her blog "Generation Y," which criticizes the Cuban government and comments on daily hardships.

In the last few years, the Cuban government started allowing their citizens to own a cellphone. This is for adults only. Children in Cuba rarely own cellphones.

Out of 11 million Cuban citizens, only 2 million have the internet.

The next time you call your mom on your cellphone, send your friends emails, or use a computer to find out what’s happening around the world, remember the people of Cuba. The communist regime doesn’t want Cubans citizens using technology. They want to keep them in the dark .
