The Eyes of Kid Midas Chapter 7 Kevin Becoming

Paying attention to things that get suddenly mentioned out of nowhere can be helpful to your enjoyment of a book. On page 57, the narrator makes a point to tell us that the sun came up behind the “electrical tower.” In the previous chapter, much was written about the glasses and the power and energy they use up, and now we are hearing about the electrical tower in town. As readers, when we are aware of these little nuances and we question why, we automatically become more engaged with our text. Thus, reading becomes more powerful and more enjoyable.

At the bottom of page 79 there is figurative language called allusion. Allusion is when the author refers to something without explicitly explaining it.

The figurative language is, “Silence hung in the air like the Hindenburg.”

This allusion, which is also a simile, compares silence to the Hindenburg.

But what is the Hindenburg? The Hindenburg was a large flying machine built by the Germans. It was a lightweight machine fueled by hydrogen, a highly flammable liquid gas that caught on fire in mid air, creating a giant fireball of disaster in the sky.
