Double- Entry Journals It is important to reflect on the themes and movements throughout the text of Prisoner B-3087. Each week you will be required to complete one
journal. Every Monday your journals will be checked for completion. There will be a total of six journals.
Example:
Quote:“If I had known what the next six years of my life were going to be
like, I would have eaten more” (pg. 2.)
Entry:This is the beginning quote of the novel. I chose this quote because it shows how Yanek
reflected on his journey. He says he would have eaten more. In my reading thus far, I have seen how
hunger can impact a person. I have never experienced the type of hunger that Yanek describes, and I am so fortunate for that. In
the first chapter of the book, I got shivers thinking about losing
my home and freedom like Yanek had to endure. You can
feel the fear and uncertainty in Yanek’s voice. “We just sat there
in my family’s flat, listening to the radio and watching the sky over Kraków turn black as the
Germans came to kill us.”

Chapter (pg. #) Insight or QuestionExample:Chapter 1, pg 2. “I wouldn’t have complained about
brushing my teeth, or taking a bath, or going to bed at eight o’clock every night.”
Brushing teeth and a bedtime symbolizes freedom and the love of a family.
