2018 – Happy New Year – 2019
Father Polednak, Deacon Kabacinski, and the parish staff extend best wishes
for a Blessed and Happy 2019!
We place the New Year in the hands of our Blessed Mother as we prepare to celebrate
Tuesday’s Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God.
May the Lord give us strength, peace and joy in this New Year!!
To all of you, your families and friends: A VERY HAPPY AND HOLY 2019!!!
Questions for personal reflection based on this Sunday’s Readings…
Peace
“Brothers and sisters, put on, as God’s chosen
ones, holy and beloved, heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, patience, bearing with one another and forgiving one another, if one has a grievance against another; As the Lord has forgiven you, so you must also do.
And let the peace of Christ control your hearts.” -Colossians 3:12,14
“He went down with them and came to Nazareth,
and was obedient to them.” –Luke 24:51
When have I been forgiven by someone or a
group of people for messing up? Do I see forgiveness in all its forms as related to or as reflection of God’s forgiveness shown to me?
Who must I forgive right now?
Family life is difficult, and no family is consistently perfect –
especially around the holidays. Even the Holy Family lost Jesus! We may feel unappreciated, neglected, or disrespected by
those we love the most. In today’s Gospel, Joseph or Mary didn’t grab Jesus when they found him – to us a normal reaction. Rather, HE went with them, HE obeyed them.
Do I allow the peace of Christ to control my heart, emotions, and anger? Do I let Him into my
family to make it holy, just as he made his own earthly family holy? Do I sin by presuming I can
fix family messes all on my own?
ITEMS FOR THE BEGINNING OF 2019 NEW OFFERTORY ENVELOPE SYSTEM will begin in January as announced previously and included in your Christmas
Letter. If you have not received Adult Envelopes, and you are 23 Years old or older, please call the rectory, as your census information may not be up to date. Because of the Holidays, some envelopes may be late – please call the rectory if you are concerned.
2018 Books close at the end of the year. Please make all 2018 donations or make-up offerings before the end of this week.

Blessing of Homes Father Polednak and Deacon Kabacinski are continuing the custom of the Blessing of Homes after Christmas. Consider making this custom a part of your January to start the year off right, especially those in new or remodeled homes. If you wish a home visit, please indicate such on the reply form and return it by December 25. The blessing of a home is a blessing for the structure, but more importantly for those who dwell there. Ideally, everyone is home when the blessing takes place, though this is sometimes impossible. Please indicate what is a good time for the visit – this will be taken into account as Father is making the schedule.
20 + K + M + B + 19
2019 Blessing of Homes Fr. John and Deacon André continue this beautiful tradition. If you would like your home blessed, please fill out and return so that a schedule could be made.

WITH PARISH SYMPATHY Our prayers are requested for Lucille Lezinsky whose Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 29; for Veronica Reese whose Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, December 31; and for Carol Grzybicki for whom services will be celebrated January 3. May the Risen Christ embrace them in His eternal love and peace, and give His comfort and consolation to their families and friends. Our parish sympathy is extended to them in their loss.
SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM We welcome to the Church Cecilia Christine Guida and Chase Michael Kivak who were baptized last Sunday. As they receive their new life in Christ in the Sacrament of Baptism, may the Lord Jesus fill them with many graces and blessings all through their Christian life. We extend our parish best wishes and congratulations to them, their parents and families on this happy occasion!
HOLY DAY OF OBLIGATION Catholics are obligated to participate in the holy Sacrifice of the Mass on January 1, (or the Vigil on December 31) in honor of the great mystery of Mary as Mother of God. Give thanks for all that has been, pray for all that will be, and join us for Masses at 4:00pm on Monday or 9:00am and 11:00am on Tuesday. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS Classes resume next Sunday, January 6, for K-7 at the usual time.
The GIFT CERTIFICATES that support Holy Rosary School and our other Diocesan schools will be available on THURSDAY, JANUARY 3, from 8:00-10:00 am in the Church Hall.
FIRST FRIDAY of the month occurs this week. Some visits to homes will take place this coming week. Phone calls will be made to make arrangements. At this time, the home will also be blessed.
THE POPE’S PRAYER INTENTION FOR JANUARY 2019 entrusted to the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network
(Apostleship of Prayer)
Evangelization: That young people, especially in Latin America, follow the example of Mary and respond to the call of the Lord to communicate the joy of the Gospel to the world.
MORNING OFFERING
O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer you my prayers, works, joys, sufferings of this day,
in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world.
I offer them for all the intentions of your Sacred Heart; the salvation of souls, the reparation for sin,
the reunion of Christians; and in particular for the intentions
of the Holy Father this month. Amen.
WEDDING ANNIVERSARY MASS His Excellency, the Most Reverend Joseph C. Bambera, D.D., J.C.L., Bishop of Scranton and the Office for Parish Life wish to invite couples celebrating their 25th or 50th Wedding Anniversary in 2019 to a Diocesan
Wedding Anniversary Mass on Sunday, June 30. The event includes a 2:30 pm Mass at St. Peter’s Cathedral followed by a reception. Requests for an invitation, with a mailing address, should be made through Nativity’s office before April 2.
RESPECT LIFE MASS The Annual Respect Life Mass, sponsored by the Wyoming Valley Council, Knights of Columbus, will be held at St. Ignatius Church, 339 N. Maple Street in Kingston, Sunday, January 13, at 10:30 am. The Knights, along with Pro-Life representatives, will offer prayer intentions during the Mass for a greater respect of all human life and to end abortion. January is Respect Life month as abortion was legalized on January 22, 1973. Since then, upwards of 60 million innocent unborn children have been killed through abortion. Monsignor David Tressler, Pastor, warmly invites all to attend and to pray for the most vulnerable of human lives, those with disabilities, the ill, and the unborn.
