Here are some managing tips for winning respect and loyalty from those who work with you - without using methods that instill fear and resentment: • Don’t grandstand. Refrain from lecturing, praising, or humiliating subordinates in public. • Be evenhanded. Don’t play favorites among subordinates. • Demonstrate the work ethic you expect from others. • Set high ethical and moral standards, and live up to them conspicuously. That will send a clear message to others about the level of performance you expect. Frontier Lighting is pleased to have provided the LED lighting fixtures for Sarasota Memorial, the second-largest public hospital in Florida. They replaced 250-watt metal halide cobra head lights in the parking lot with 75-watt EvoLucia(TM)-brand LED cobra head lights, reducing electricity use by 67 percent. The hospital also recently installed 24-watt EvoLucia UTL-1 utility spotlights on the grounds to improve visibility at night. The spotlights replaced 250-watt metal halide light sources as well, resulting in approximately 90 percent reduction in energy use for those applications. The new EvoLucia LED lights are completely maintenance-free, requiring no lamp replacements for more than 12 years of nighttime use, dramatically reducing the high constant expense of replacing lamps and ballasts in older technologies. “The new LED lamps are more cost-efficient, but more than that, they will improve the security of our campus by providing longer-lasting coverage and cleaner, whiter lighting for improved visibility at night,” said Sarasota Memorial Public Safety Director Mickey Watson. Did You Know?

Solid-state lighting (SSL) technology uses semi-conducting materials to convert electricity into light. SSL is an umbrella term encompassing both light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs).

Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are based on inorganic (non-carbon based) materials. An LED is a semi-conducting device that produces light when an electrical current flows through it. LEDs were first developed in the 1960s but were used only in indicator applications until recently.

General illumination is a term used to distinguish between lighting that illuminates tasks, spaces, or objects from lighting used in indicator or purely decorative applications. In most cases, general illumination is provided by white light sources, including incandescent, fluorescent, high-intensity discharge sources, and white LEDs. Lighting used for indication or decoration is often monochromatic, as in traffic lights, exit signs, vehicle brake lights, signage, and holiday lights.

Luminous efficacy is the most commonly used measure of the energy efficiency of a light source. It is stated in lumens per watt (lm/W), indicating the amount of light a light source produces for each watt of electricity consumed. For white high-brightness LEDs, luminous efficacy published by LED manufacturers typically refers to the LED chip only, and doesn’t include driver losses. See more information in the Energy Efficiency section.

RGB stands for red, green, and blue, the three primary colors of light. When the primaries are mixed, the resulting light appears white to the human eye. Mixing the light from red, green, and blue LEDs is one way to produce white light. The other approach is known as phosphor conversion [see below]. See more information in the Color Quality section.

Phosphor conversion is a method used to generate white light with LEDs. A blue or near-ultraviolet LED is coated with a yellow or multichromatic phosphor, resulting in white light.

Frontier Lighting is committed to maintaining continuous service to all of our customers.

However, we also recognize how this responsibility is magnified when a customer chooses to consolidate their purchases through us. By choosing Frontier Lighting as a primary source vendor, customers enjoy the leverage of higher volume purchasing. Yet, with that benefit, comes the inherent risk of “single point of failure” in the event of a catastrophic event. At Frontier Lighting , we are confident in our ability to not only survive such events, but believe we are positioned to sustain our customer’s needs well beyond any competitive alternative.

Our confidence has its foundation in our conservative growth strategy. Rather than catapult from one mega-market to another, Frontier has chosen a “regional-reach” strategy. Headquartered in Clearwater, FL (easily servicing Tampa and St. Petersburg), Frontier first chose to expand by establishing a full service warehouse in Bradenton / Sarasota. That easy-to-reach market was followed by an additional full service warehouse operation in Ft. Myers.

This regional-reach growth plan is advantageous in that it allows us to exercise inventory load balancing between branches and accommodate spike demands in a timely manner. We achieve this in two ways: 1) our sophisticated software allows branch operating autonomy while supporting inter-branch visibility; and 2) by running regularly scheduled inventory shuttles between the branches.

What this means to our customers is that we are operationally prepared and practiced at moving inventory between territories because we do it on a daily basis. In the event of a catastrophic event affecting any one of our warehouses, the other two can pick up the load. In addition, we routinely rotate employees between branches to back-fill vacation time or just to make sure we reinforce team relationships.

Another factor supporting our customers is Frontier Lighting’s strong business relationship with Sylvania, one of the largest lighting manufacturers in the world. Frontier Lighting is Sylvania’s largest Independent Lighting Distributor in Florida, and as a top-tier authorized distributor, Frontier and our customers

enjoy Sylvania’s commitment to priority inventory replenishment to any one of our warehouses upon our request. The combination of our dedicated employees, financial strength, internal infrastructure, and strategic vendor relationships make Frontier a dependable partner, especially when considering the ever present chance of a catastrophic event.
