Qarun used to travel witha magni cent entourage, ull o pomp and grandeur.Servants and salves surroundinghim, riding on lavishly decoratedanimals and carts, laden with jewelry and extravagantdecorations. Te intention was or everyone to know thatsomeone very rich and special was arriving.

One day he came out in hisamiliar ashion, dripping with arrogance. People who were easily impressed with worldly charms and delights were again impressed as usual,

envious o his good ortune, and wishing greedily or treasuressimilar to his. Some o thepeople who were wise, down-to-earth, and Allaah- earing, advised them to be content with whatever was given them, andto put their aith in Allaah, andalways strive or good deeds. For those who do so, Allaahhad prepared a better and more

    permanent reward or them,

and that was what was betteror them to strive or.

However bright the sun may shine, it has to set. Allaahhad ordained that it wasnow time or the ame andortune o Qarun to sunset and

vanish. Te punishment Allaahhad in store or Qarun was toremain, as it remains till today, and lesson and warning orall humankind to come. Tatday, Allaah caused the earth toswallow Qarun and his wholepompous entourage, complete with all his wealth and treasures, right in ront o the people

watching him. Tere was noorce, no army, none o his alliesor riends in the government who could save him, eventhough we was a close associateo the Pharaoh. Nor, with all his wealth and ortune, he was ableto save himsel . Our ProphetMuhammad (PBUH) saidthe earth will keep on pullingQarun and swallowing him and

he will stay in this state until

the Day o Judgment has beenestablished.

Those among the people whoconsidered Qarun ortunateand wished they had similarto what he had, had now learnedtheir lessons. Tey immediately accepted that it was only Allaah who can broaden sustenanceor restrict it. I His Mercy wasnot upon them, they wouldhave met the same ate asQarun and the earth wouldhave swallowed them. And they would have ended up as one o the disbelievers.

At end o this story inQuran, Allaah says, Tathome o the Herea ter (i.e.

Paradise), We shall assign tothose who rebel not against thetruth with pride and oppressionin the land nor do mischie by committing crimes. Andthe good end is or the pious.[28:83] y

Less s Lear eIn Quran, Allaah has narrated stories of the righteous1.people, as well as the evil ones, in order for us to takelessons from them.

True value and status of a person is not due to his2.position, wealth and fortune, otherwise Qarun wouldnot have met the fate he did.

Money and wealth are not permanent.3.Someones wealth and status should not preventus from giving him advice to mend his ways. Piouspeople in Qaruns time did give him the correctadvise.

When Allaah showers His favors upon us, we should4.extend our good fortune to help other people, and benot be ungrateful.

The way to be grateful for the wealth Allaah has given5.us is to spend it in His ways, and not on things thatHe has made forbidden to us.

When a believer meets any good fortune, status, or6.blessing, he attributes to the Mercy of Allaah, whilein contrast people like Qarun attribute them to theirhard work and efforts.

Forbidden uses of wealth are tantamount to7.transgressing against Allaah and spreading anarchy.

People who love Allaah are never impressed by the8. wealth of others, rather their focus remains on TheHereafter

People who judge by worldly standards are always9.away from reality.

Truly fortunate are those people whom Allaah enables10.to do good deeds, and not those who have wealth.

Those who nd tranquility in display of wealth are not11.aware of the reality.

When the wrath of Allaah descends; money, position,12.kingdom, nothing can be of any bene t.

The rewards that Allaah has reserved for His pious13.servants are much more than all the treasures of this

    world.

Those who are wise learn from others mistakes.14.

Happy endings are for those who restraint themselves15.from transgression again Allaah, spreading anarchy, and oppression.

T he Resurrection o Manhas been a never endingdebate, not only hasQuran mentioned the sarcasm

o non believers regardingrebirth but up-to this age it hasbeen the bone o contention, specially as cremation is a morepopular orm o disposing o thedead in Christian amilies alsolike in Hinduism, the questionor belie o resurrection hasbeen even more discussed anddoubted.

N ot only Islam but Judaism and Christianity also believe in a Day o Resurrection. Logic and sense

o justice demands that thereis a need or a Day where goodand bad deeds are rewarded, the victims are avenged and the evilpunished. Tere ore we believethat when God Almighty cancreate us the rst time, it is easierto create us the second time.

A llaahs Messenger(PBUH) said, Teearth would consumeevery part o the son o Adam

(a ter his death) except or onebone; the coccyx (the bone at thebase o the vertebral column)rom which he is created androm which his body will bereconstituted on the Day o Resurrection.[Sahih al-Bukhari and Muslim]

i n a number o Ahadith, theProphet (PBUH) mentionedthat Agbu adh-Dhanab isa small bone, as small as themustard seed, at the base o thespinal column. It is a remnant o the primary strand rom whichthe human body is created in theembryonic stage, and it remainsa ter his death and even a terthe decomposition o his body.It is this coccyx rom whichman will be brought back toli e on the Day o Resurrection. Te Prophet(PBUH) assertedthat Allaah willsend water rom

the sky and thenthe dead bodies will grow like vegetation grows. Tere is nothingo the humanbody that does notdecay except onebone; the coccyx,a small triangularbone at the base o the spinal column, through whichthe human body will be recreatedon the Day o Resurrection.

i t is obvious that the issueo the decomposition o bodies, is a general rule, with the exception o the bodieso the Prophets, who seeks hisreward only rom Allaah, asImam Ibn Hajar mentioned, relying on the Ahadith o theProphet (PBUH).

T he Prophet (PBUH)oretold a scienti c actthat was discovered only a ew years ago. Specialists inembryology have proven, as Dr.Muhammad Aly el-Bar said (in

an extensive research) that thehuman body is created rom a very delicate strand called TePrimary Strand. Tis is created, with the Will o Allaah, on the15th day o the ertilization o the ovum and its implantationin the wall o the uterus.

W hen this strand isormed, all the organso the embryo startto orm, especially the nervoussystem, the initial parts o the

vertebral column, and the rest o the body parts, because Allaahhas given this strand the ability to stimulate the cells to start todividing, di erentiating romeach other, and acquire theirown speci c characteristics. Italso helps them to accumulatetogether in their specializedtissues and ull organs, whichcomplement each other intheir cooperation to per orm allbodily unctions.

i t has been proven thatthis preliminary stranddecomposes (a ter mansdeath) except or a small part

( t h eo r i g i no thecoccyx), w h i c hremainsat thee n do the vertebralcolumn (or in the vertebraknown as the coccyx), and thisis what is meant by Agbu adh-dhanabin the hadith. When man

dies, the wholebody decomposesexcept or this part, rom which as

mentioned in thehadith man isrecreated, exactly asa plant germinatesrom a seed. Tisprocess takes place when, at the timeo Resurrection, special rain will allrom the sky, by the Will o Allaah, Te Almighty.

A group o C h i n e s escientistsproved in their laboratory experiments that it is impossibleor this part Agbu adh-Dhanab(the end part o the coccyx)to totally perish. Tey tried todissolve it chemically in thestrongest acids, through burning, pounding, and by subjecting itto various types o radiation. Tis de nitely proves that thehadith o the Prophet (PBUH)is true and precedes all scienti cexperiments by 1400 years.y

    Practice MyVision March 2013

I was walking amidst worshippers on the thirdoor o Masjid al Haram.Deep in thought, I wassuddenly interrupted by hearingsomeones incredible recitation

    o the irresistible Quran.

I stood still, my heartcaptivated by the recitation. As I slowly sat in my spot, other worshippers came andbegan to sit near me, whiskingout phones to capture the voice.

    A

s he nished, the mannext to him beganto explain that this

reciter was Shaykh al-Shirbini,an Imam o a masjid in Cairo. Tose around him beggedhim to continue reciting andhe politely re used. Te crowdgot larger, persisting in theirdemands until he nally continued reciting and thenengaged in conversation withthe crowd.

His recitation remindedme o the worldrenowned Abdul

Baset Abdul Samad, the Qari(Quran reciter) who almostevery Quran teacher suggestsany new student o tajweed(rules o recitation o Quran)to ollow in order to per ecttheir recitation. For so long Ihad wanted to know how to

get the same pitch as the greatQari, having heard more thanonce that its attainable even orthose who are not born with it.I couldnt hold my question inany longer.Excuse me, I spoke throughthe crowd, I have a question! Te Shaykh and the man sitting

next to him looked to me withkindness and welcomed my inquiry. I someone wants torecite like you with that sametone inclination how canthey do it? Te Shaykh smiled

    and responded with one word:Practice.

H e told me: Listen toShaykh Abdul Basetover and over, ocusingon smaller surahs (chapters o the Quran) to get the tone andinclination. And over time, themore that I listen, the easier hispitch will come.

I havent attained thatpitch yet, although Imsure many readers have.

Tus, this reminder isnt aboutgetting down that type o toneinclination. Tis reminder isabout his one-worded reply:Practice.

W hen I rst startedmemorizing theQuran, my voice,

my tone, my melody washorrendous. I hated hearingmysel . My teacher would recite with a melodious voice andthe words o the Quran would just enter my heart. And thenI would recite and sound likenails on a chalkboard.

One day, I asked her how I could get to her level. How could I recite and

actually enjoy what I heard? How could I not sound sohorrible?

She smiled and replied,Youre just starting.Ive been doing this or years. As you increase in your

memorization, youll get yourown ow and your voice willbegin to ll. Dont worry, itll just take time and practice.

And thats exactly whathappened. It took time and practice. And

thats the key; you and I may not sound like a amous Qari, especially when we rst begin. However, with time and Allaahshelp, well start to carve our owngroove with our Quran.

    M

any are those whohave lamented to meo their inability to

recite beauti ully, to memorizequickly or to remember whattheyve memorized. Tose whohave almost given up countlesstimes have told me, I dontknow whats wrong with me! Te real question, however, has little to do with what may be wrong and everything to do with how hard or consistently one is putting in the e ort.

Shaykh al-Shirbini and allo my Quran teachersgave me the same advice. Whether its the way onerecites, the speed with whichone memorizes or the strengtho the actual memorization andreview, all o these rest on onething a ter the help o Allaah, and that is: Practice.

W e all have the ability to attain levels we seein others and wish

or ourselves. Te real questionis not why we cannot get there. Te question is: Are we willingto put in the e ort and dedicatethe time to become like those we wish to be?y

T oday was a very event ul day. I was walkingto school, when I came across a group o girls bullying another girl who was around11-years old. When I saw this I got very angry because when I was that age, kids used to bully me too. I went up to them and told them to stop. Tose three girls when they saw that I was much

older than them, got scared and ran away. I wentto the girl who was being bullied and asked her,Are you okay? She nodded her head yes, but Icould see that she really wanted to cry, and she wasnt okay, and remembering rom experience, I was never okay a ter being bullied either. But I was just too embarrassed to tell other people that I wasbeing bullied or admit that I was.

N ow what exactly is bullying? Bullying is when some person on purpose hurts some

other person in any way. It could be throughgestures (when you make bad aces at someone),through verbal abuse (you say bad things to aperson to hurt them, you tell other kids not to betheir riend), or it can be physical (when someonepushes you, or hits you, or pulls your hair). Bul-lying behavior is o ten repeated and bullies o tenchoose one single person as a target to make themeel bad.

I remember when I was bullied it was aw ul; Iused to eel useless and extremely sad all thetime. I hated going to school, and I always tried

to t in and try to be those kids riends, but itnever worked. Tose kids always ound somethingelse to laugh at me about.

N ow lets see why do kids bully other kids, have you ever wondered that? First o all weknow that bullying is something very bad, so

that shows us that the kids who are bullying havesomething really unhealthy in their minds goingon or them, to do something like this. No kid who has a healthy mind would ever do somethinglike this, why would they nd pleasure out o hurt-ing someone else? Well when you look at the mainreason why the bully is bullying you (I know you

might not believe me right now but its true) isbecause they eel in erior, they have some prob-lem in their own lives, because o which they takeit out on other people so they eel better aboutthemselves.

When another person makes you su er, it is be-cause he su ers deeply within himsel , and hissu ering is spilling over. He does not need pun-ishment; he needs help. Tats the message he issending.[Tich Nhat Hanh]

Wha t to do if You are Bullied?

First of all pray to Allaah.1. Remember Heis your best riend. Verily in the remembranceo Allaah does the heart nd peace [13:29] . Allaah says, and i he comes to Me walk-

ing, I go to him running[Sahih al-Bukhari] .See how much Allaah loves you! Believe meguys, I have personally experienced this.

Dont forget your morning evening2.prayers and izkars ( c A

important. Just remember no one can harm you i Allaah is protecting you. Just imaginehow cool that is. Allaah is personally protect-ing you!

Tell an Adult3. . I know you will eel scared totell an adult, because you would not want thebullies to call you a tattle taler, but rememberit is very important to report the bullies other- wise the bullies will keep on bullying you andthe other kids.

Stand up4.for your-self. Be-lieve it ornot, this will help you gainr e s p e c trom oth-ers. Prac-tice what you mightsay to abully witha riend, your mirror, or an adult. Practice saying it in

a rm, con dent voice. You may even encour-age others to protect themselves rom bully-ing, too.

Dont let them make you feel bad5. . Re-member that the kids bullying you have aproblem. Dont let them make you eel sorry or yoursel , instead eel sorry or them. Walk away rom them calmly and dont let them see you be weak, because that will make them hurt you more. Remember they will never eel sorry

or you.Remember, this is a blessing6. . You must belike, WHA ? How can it be a blessing! Welllet me tell you rom experience. First o all it will make you stronger person, a good ghter, and it will make you a much better person thanthat bully can ever be. In uture you will standup or the other kids who are being bullied.

You will be more considerate and eel what theother people who are being hurt must eel. By putting you through this hard and aw ul timeright now, Allaah is preparing you or some-thing no one else but you can only do, some-thing which is going to be very special. Now

that makes you a very special and loved kidby Allaah. Remember no love is greater andbetter then Allaahs love, so always remember whatever hardships you are going through to-day, you will thank Allaah or them in the u-

ture. And be-lieve me you will, because it will make youa better and akinder person.

    S o re-memberi youare being bul-lied or some-one you see isbeing bullied,tell an adult

and help the person being bullied. It will alwaysmake you eel so good. Allaah hates it when peoplebully, ask Him or help and remember it will make you a better person. Te person bullying you is theone who has a problem not you. So never ever eelbad about yoursel . Allaah made you beauti ul, al- ways remember that.

E veryone, lets ght bullying, and stop whoeveris doing it. Remember Allaah loves people who are just.

T he prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, He

who amongst you sees something evil shouldmodi y it, with the help o his hands; and i

he has not strength enough to do it, then he shoulddo it with his tongue, and i he has not enoughstrength to do it, then he should abhor (means heshould think it is wrong) rom his heart, and thatis the least o aith.[Sahih Muslim] y

    The One Who Was

And Will Always BeB O C

I wonder when I look above

    With a sigh of love...

At the starry sky, with tears of joy

When will this life come to an end?

For I cant wait and I want to seeThe One who was and will always be

Its true this life does have a reason

But the world for me is still a prison

So no wonder what I have in here

That void inside will always be

For I cant wait and I want to see

The One who was and will always be

I try to avoid it but I end up sinningMy heart feels heavy and my head starts spinning

If this is the pain I feel in this world

Then how harsh would the Hell-Fire be?

The thought of it makes me hate myself

But despair of His Mercy Ill never be

For I cant wait and I want to see

The One who was and will always be

So I turn to Him, put my head on the ground

My lost soul as if suddenly found His remembrance puts my heart at peace

And brings a happy thought to mind

T aqwa is an Arabic word which is explained as ashield against wrongdo-ing, and urther expounded asto be conscious o Allaah orto have ear o Allaah or to be

    cautiously aware o Allaah.

o rigin o the wordtaqwa is rom the Arabic root letters wa ka ya (meaning shield) and its verb is rom the wordittaki . It-taki means to be care ul or tobe protected or to be cautious.aqwa is an internal compasson the path that leads towards

Allaah. Te broader meaningand character o taqwa is to de- velop ones behavior, so as to becautiously aware in the worshipo Allaah and attain nearness toHim and in so doing, per ectonesel .

T his consciousness andear o Allaah is under-stood as a protection anda shield against wrongdoing. Te abstention o evil through

this ear, consciousness and es-tablishing a cautious awarenesso Allaah, ultimately developsones love o Him. Te univer-sal principle o submission tothe Divine Will is beauti ully

expressed in the character o one who is a servant o Allaah, known as an Abd-Allaah, which is an ideal state o taqwa .

A bu Darda (RA) said,From the completiono taqwa is that theservant ears rom His Lordeven with regards to thingsthe weight o an atom. Abu

Dardas advice or servants who wish to accomplish a charactero taqwa should ear to com-mit the smallest o sins. Temessenger o Allaah said in aHadith, reported in the SahihMuslim that, aqwa is here, and he pointed to his chest.

umar (RA) once askedKab (RA) the mean-

ing o taqwa , as Kab was renowned or his deep un-

derstanding o the Quran. Kabasked him i he had ever hadto walk through a thorny bushpath wearing his cloak. Umarreplied in afrmative. Umarsaid that he had to mov very

cautiously, so as not to tear hisclothing. Kab said that was thedescription and the meaning o taqwa .

T aqwa is one o the mostpro ound concepts inIslam. It is an avenue by which Muslims relate to one an-other in society and a means tochannel actions or the pleasure

o Allaah. Possessors o taqwa are called Al-Muttaqunor Mut-taqeen. Qur`an con rms thattaqwa is or everyone and notor a select group, O you whobelieve! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to thosebe ore you, so that you may at-tain taqwa .[2:183]

    This verse con rms two

points. Firstly, that ast-ing is or everyone, and

secondly that the developmentand attaining o taqwa is an es-sential part or all who aspireor tranquility and a contentedheart. Te most honored in thesight o Allaah is the believer

with the most taqwa , i.e., themost conscious and aware o Him. Te Qur`an says at anoth-er place, O mankind! We havecreated you rom a male and aemale, and made you into na-tions and tribes, that you may know one another. Verily, themost honourable o you with Allaah is that [believer] who hasat- aqwa . Verily, Allaah is All-Knowing, All-Aware.[49:13]

A n ideal Islamic society isa taqwa conscious soci-ety, con erring its high-est respect on those consideredto be high in taqwa . Toughtaqwa is a state o the heart, wecannot judge thetaqwa o others, but many aspects o taqwa willhave a re ection in their char-acter and behavior. Te Qur`anthough, prohibits anyone rom

claims o sel -purity. Hold not yoursel puri ed. Allaah knowsbest who has taqwa .[53:32]

In Islam there is only oneShariah(Divine Law) andone scale o righteousness

or everyone and that is mea-sured through taqwa . Te wordtaqwa has been mentioned151 times in the Qur`an. TeQur`anic descriptions o taqwa are so precise and distinct thatit is an indication o the impor-tance o the involvement o thisconcept in the li e o Muslims, and enables Muslims to be an

ideal and living example o a vicegerent o Allaah.

Q uran, in the ollowing verses, summarizes theguiding principle orthe people o taqwa , Tis is theBook about which there is nodoubt, a guidance or those con-scious o Allaah Who believein the unseen, establish prayer,

and spend out o what We haveprovided or them. And who

believein whath a sbeen re- v ea ledto you,

[O Muhammad PBUH], and what was revealed be ore you,and o the Herea ter they arecertain [in aith]. Tose areupon [right] guidance romtheir Lord, and it is those whoare the success ul.[2:2-5]

A l- Muttaqun are alwaysinvolved and active intheir lives with theUm-mah (the Muslim community),concerned with the a airs o humanity, whilst at the sametime praying , asting, spendingin Allaahs cause, having goodmorals, and are orgiving and just. Tey are the ones who willbe assured and success ul in theHerea ter. y

    orb ts

While referring to the Sun and the Moon in the Quran, it is emphasized

that each moves in a de nite orbit:

It is He Who created the night and the day, and thesun and the moon. They swim along, each in an orbit.

    [21:33]

It is mentioned in another verse, too, that the Sun is not static but

moves in a de nite orbit:

And the sun runs to its resting place. That is the

decree of the Almighty, the All-Knowing. [37:38]

These facts communicated in the Quran have been discovered by

astronomical observations in our age. According to the calculations

of experts on astronomy, the Sun is traveling at the enormous speed

of 720,000 kilometers an hour in the direction of the star Vega in a

particular orbit called the Solar Apex. This means that the sun travels

roughly 17,280,000 kilometers a day. Along with the Sun, and all

planets and satellites within the gravitational system of the Sun also

travel the same distance. In addition, all the stars in the universe are

    in a similar planned motion.

That the entire universe is full of paths and orbits such as this one is

written in the Quran as follows:

By the sky full of paths and orbits. [51:7]
