NAVIGATE IN BRIDGE

Click the Folders tab to display the Folders panel

Click a folder to display its contents in the Content panel

Shift-click two or more thumbnails to select them, then double-click one of theselected thumbnails to open those files in Photoshop

Click the double-headed arrow at theend of the workspace menu andchoose Essentials

To select a Foreground color, clickthe Swatches panel tab, then click aswatch on the panel

Photoshop tools are accessed fromthe Tools panel

Click and hold on a tool that has atiny arrowhead to display a fly-outmenu of related, hidden tools, thenclick a tool to select it

SAVE A COPY OF A FILE IN A DIFFERENT FORMAT

Open the File > Save As dialog box

Choose a format from the Formatmenu

The file extension for the chosenformat will appear in the filename

Tool size

To change the tool size for the Brush or Pencil tool, click the Brush Preset pickerthumbnail on the Options bar, then click a preset in the picker or move the Size slider

Opacity

To change the Opacity setting for the Brush or Pencil tool, click the Opacity arrowhead,then move the slider

If the Blur, Sharpen, or Smudge tool is selected, a Strength option displays instead ofan Opacity option

If the Dodge or Burn tool is selected, an Exposure option displays

THE IMAGE SIZE DIALOG BOX

Use the Image > Image Size dialogbox to alter the dimensions orresolution for a file

When the Resample Image option isunchecked:

The Document Size fields are linked(note the chain icon)

If you change one Document Sizevalue, such as resolution, the othertwo values change automatically

The Pixel Dimensions values staythe same; no pixels are added to ordeleted from the file

RESAMPLING

When the Resample Image option isselected in the Image Size dialogbox, the Pixel Dimensions fields andthe Document Size fields are linked:

Increasing a value in any field willadd pixels to the file

Decreasing a value in any field willeliminate pixels from the file

A dock of panels can be expandedto full width or collapsed to icons

To collapse or expand a dock, at thetop of the dock, either double-clickthe top bar or click the doublearrowhead

Click a tab in a panel group todisplay that panel in front

In a collapsed dock, click an icon toexpand that panel; click the iconagain to collapse the panel

To move an individual panel to adifferent group in an expandeddock, drag the panel tab intoanother panel group, and releasethe mouse when a blue drop-zonerectangle appears

To move a panel group to a newvertical location in the dock, dragthe bar of the panel group upwardor downward in the dock, andrelease the mouse when ahorizontal blue drop-zone lineappears

CONVERT A FILE TO A DIFFERENT COLOR MODE

Show the Channels panel to viewthe number of channels in thecurrent document

A document in the RGB Color modecontains three channels: Red,Green, and Blue

Choose a different mode from theImage > Mode submenu

CMYK Color mode is used whenoutputting a file to a commercialpress

A document in CMYK Color modecontains four channels: Cyan,Magenta, Yellow, and Black—onefor each of the four separationplates that are used in commercialprinting

FLATTEN ALERT

When converting a multilayered file to another color mode, an alert will display

The alert options are Merge or Don’t Merge layers in the file

Click Don’t Merge to preserve the layers
