Philosophy of EducationMy educational philosophy rests on these beliefs about teaching and learning:

    1. All students have a desire and capacity to learn. Students enter the classroom with variouslearning styles and interests. I believe that a student best learns when presented with instructionthat builds a common content knowledge, encourages and refines critical thinking skills, and

provides ample opportunities for reflection and discussion. It is my job to create an environmentthat will provide the student the greatest opportunity to reach their learning potential throughmaking the best use of his/her learning style or individual interests.

    2. Not all students see a wealth of positive role models outside of their schools. I believe themost important responsibility of public education is to provide students with teachers who exhibitall the qualities that make a solid role model and citizen: integrity, morality, honesty, equity, andcompassion. I believe that these values do not need to be forced on students, but rather shouldbe modeled by their teachers in order to create a learning focused classroom in which studentsfeel secure and equipped for success.

    3. All students exhibit aptitude in multiple intelligences, and that all these intelligences can be

further developed and enhanced. I believe that lessons must be developed to cater to thediversity of intelligences possessed by the students. Providing diverse instructional methods willallow the student to find success when a lesson engages their intellectual strengths as well asprovide opportunities to improve upon their aptitude in the other intellectual areas.

    4. All students desire to grow academically and individually during their time in school. I believethat students are always willing to learn, and want to be challenged. A teacher must know hisstudents and be able to communicate openly with them about how they can be successful andaccomplish goals. As a teacher, it is my responsibility to never give up on students that may bestruggling or seem unmotivated, to challenge them to excel, and to give them continualfeedback on their educational progress.

    5. Professional development is essential as all teachers must constantly be learning newinformation on their subject content as well as on developments in education. The only constantin life is change, and as a teacher, I must remain informed and prepared in order tocommunicate relevant material and effective instruction to my students.

Applications to the ClassroomBecause of these beliefs, I will use in the following methods of classroom instruction: 1. I will differentiate instruction to create diverse and dynamic lesson plans that are student

centered, reach multiple intelligences and encourage development to critical thinking skills. This will often require the use of media presentation technology in the classroom, particularly video, music, and computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Movie

    maker and Power Point.

    2. I will facilitate opportunities that allow students to work collaboratively on lesson material.Lessons will facilitate student analysis and evaluation of authentic events and experiences, requiring the student to synthesize curriculum goals with current events and seek solutionsfor real world problems. In addition, students will develop an appreciation for multiple beliefs, values, and ideas through the integration of their peers viewpoints in group work.
