As well as the using the distinguished Krips for the underscore - he whipped up a Hollywood-style majestic theme - Chauvel also got Rod Mansfield to devise a "Goanna Song" for the film. See Trove here for more details of this work:

Henry Krips was one of the most significant screen composers at work in Australia in the nineteen forties, having fled Vienna and begun working for Ken Hall and Cinesound in the 1930s.

He would later conduct the South Australian Symphony Orchestra, and play a major role in the development of classical music culture in Australia. The ADB has a detailed biography here.
