Dear Parents/Guardians, Will second semester give us more snow than we have seen so far this year? I know our students are hoping so! The first half of the year has gone quickly with 6th graders enjoying outdoor school and now settling into the middle school routine. Our 7th graders have shared that their classes are more challenging, but they enjoy the friendships they have developed and their teachers. 8th grade has visited the Career and Tech Center, started selecting their high school courses, and will visit South Carroll this spring. You send us great students, and we appreciate it! Our students in the Student Government Association have planned a competitive and entertaining evening of Family Feud for students and families to attend. Not to be left out, our PTO is excited to offer a FREE showing of Screenagers, Next Chapter on February 28th. Paired with the Used Book Sale, this should be a fun and informative night. Join us to learn more about how technology has integrated into every facet of our daily lives and impacts our students. Mt. Airy Drama Club presents

Mary Poppins Jr.

Friday, April 24 at 7 pm

Saturday, April 25 at 3:30pm and 7pm

Your favorite practically perfect nanny takes center stage in this Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious adventure based on the award-winning Broadway musical and classic Walt Disney film.

The jack-of-all trades, Bert, introduces us to England in 1910 and the troubled Banks family. Young Jane and Michael have sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep. Using a combination of magic and common sense, she must teach the family members how to value each other again. Mary Poppins takes the children on many magical and memorable adventures, but Jane and Michael aren't the only ones upon whom she has a profound effect. Even grown-ups can learn a lesson or two from the nanny who advises that "Anything can happen if you let it."

Nurse’s Notes

BRRR...It’s cold outside.

In light of the recent cold weather, it is important for students to dress appropriately for

the weather. Emergencies do arise during the school day where students may need to leave

the school building or their school bus and could be exposed to freezing temperatures for a

period of time. For example, the student’s school bus could breakdown en route to or from

school or an unplanned evacuation of the school building due to a facility malfunction may

occur.

Normally, fire drills are not performed on days that would put a student at risk for

hypothermia. Frost bite can occur when temperatures are below freezing and wind chills are

expected. Hypothermia can occur in as little as 5-10 minutes when skin is exposed to extreme

cold weather.

A good rule of thumb-if temperatures are 32 degrees or below, proper attire should be

worn. (Long pants, heavy coats, hats, gloves).

Hypothermia and frostbite can be serious, frostbite is irreversible.

Project Linus Blanketeers

Donations of 1-1/2 yards of blizzard fleece are needed for the 8th Grade Linus Project. Happy prints for school age students would be greatly appreciated. We are also in need of new or gently used fabric scissors. If you are able to sharpen scissors, your help would be greatly appreciated; a lot of our scissors no longer cut the fleece due to dull blades. Please send them to Mrs. Lantz, Family and Consumer Science Teacher.

MAMS Book Warriors Our Book Warriors are enthusiastically and diligently at work preparing for the Battle of the Books to be held at Westminster High School on Friday, April 5th at 6:30pm. We are taking the field with more teams than ever before, each coached by a faculty member. We thank everyone for their dedication. Come cheer us on!

Leo’s Club

The Leo’s Club was very busy during the holiday season. Together with

the Lion’s club, we helped over 20 families have a nice meal for

Thanksgiving. An additional 18 families received food and presents for

their celebrated holiday later in December.

One Thursday evening a month, we will continue to help with God’s Kitchen.

We also have some springtime events coming up. Parents/guardians, watch

for an email coming out with information in the next few weeks.

Please remember to submit service learning forms either in paper form or

online. Mrs. Bohle keeps track of who participated in each event, however

it is the responsibility of the student to submit the proper paperwork.

Thank you for continuing to support our community as well as your student

in the Leo’s club!!

If you do not report a student absent by email or phone, the students are required to present a note signed by a parent or legal guardian substantiating a reason for the absence. Notes should be brought in on the day the student returns to school.

Early Dismissals: Parents wishing to pick up their student may do so with permission from the parent and approval from the school. Requests should be in writing and should be brought by the student to the sign-in desk upstairs by 8:15am. Parents must sign out students in the office. If parents wish for someone else to pick up their son or daughter, there must be a written request. Anyone picking up a student should be prepared to present a photo ID.

If you change your work or home phone numbers, please send the changes, in writing, to the school office. In the event of a move, we will also require proof of residency in the form of a recent utility/cable bill, a signed lease or rental agreement or a mortgage statement or bill.

Students are permitted to have one am and one pm bus stop. In case of an emergency, students may request to ride a different bus or to get off at a different stop. Notes must be provided from the receiving and sending parents stating the reason for the request and must be given to the school office for approval. If a request is denied, parents of the student requesting the change will be notified.

Legal Custody of Children: It is extremely important to keep the school informed of any custody agreements concerning your child. An official court order or court document is required to establish guidelines for custody and/or restrictions. Please contact the school immediately if there is any change in the custody situation of your child.

Visitors to the building: In order to make our school the safest environment possible for both students and staff, we require that all volunteers and visitors wear an ID badge while in the school. As always, everyone must check into the main office upon entering the building. Parents are not permitted to go back to the classrooms without an administrator’s approval
