1. Scope /Objective/Purpose
The Scope of this Method Statement covers the application of Painting. The
Purpose of this procedure is to ensure that the correct methods are employed
during the application of paint and to achieve compliance with the contract
specifications and manufacturers recommendations.
2. References
a) Approved material submittals for painting works.
b) Quality system procedure material receipt and inspection.
c) Approved project safety plan & procedures.
d) Engineers' instructions.
e) Project specifications.
f) Manufacturers recommendations/Data sheet.
3. Responsibilities
The Project Manager & the Construction Managers are responsible for the over
all operation of this procedure & its revision when deemed necessary and to
delegate the responsibility to nominated Site Engineer to directly supervise the
works on site. The nominated Site Engineers are responsible for ensuring that allthe painting works are executed in accordance with the manufacturers paint
application procedure and project specifications. The foreman responsible for
painting works shall ensure that all the painting works are as per the procedure.
The QC Inspector will be responsible for painting, compliance with QC
requirements, including submission of inspection request and the documentation
is signed-off by the concerned parties and filed in the quality department filing
system.
4. Application Procedures/Method
Work shall be in accordance with Project specification section 09900, ITP,
Schedule, mockup and Approved manufacturers method statement for each paint
systems.
1) Painting shall not be commenced until the clearance to be obtained from
ALEC
2) Shall protect the surfaces not to be painted from paint spatters, markings
and other damages.
3) All surfaces to be painted shall be cleaned from dust, dirt and other
surface debris.

4) Rinse scrubbed surfaces with clean water until foreign materials areflushed from surfaces and allow surfaces to dry thoroughly prior painting
activities.
5) Shall prevent contamination of cleaned surfaces before prime coat is
applied and between applications of remaining coats.
6) Surfaces shall be sanded to provide adequate adhesion and to remove
visible defects
7) Shall apply primer or paint as soon as possible after cleaning and before
deterioration occurs.
8) Provide protection to prevent damage from droppings, over spray, wind
blown particles, etc.
9) Safe access shall be provided to the location for materials and work force.10) Surface preparation shall be checked by QC Inspectors and offer for
consultants approval.
11) Paint that has been approved by consultant shall be used and apply as per
manufactures application method/paint system
12) Complete each specified coat of paint on an entire surface.
13) Care shall be taken for drying time between coats as per manufacturers
recommendation.
14) Finish coat shall be smooth, free of brush marks, pile-up of paint, skipped
or missed areas.
15) Make edges of paint adjoining other materials or colours without over
lapping the colours.
5.Delivery and Storage
1) All paint and related material shall be delivered to the site in
manufacturers sealed containers with manufacturers labels which shall
bear name, brand, type of paint, colour of paint and instructions for use.
2) All paint materials shall store away from heat generating devices and in a
well ventilated area
3) Storage of paints and other related materials used on job shall be in a
single place and shall keep such storage place clean and in order.
4) Oily or solvent soaked rags shall be removed from storage area and all
necessary precautions shall be taken to reduce fire hazard.

7. Material Requirements
a) As per manufactures paint System
8. Health & Safety Provisions
a) Suitable access shall be provided for the work and shall provide safe
scaffolding if required for painting activities as per the contract.
b) High standard of house keeping shall be observed to prevent falling
materials.
c) The effect of weather conditions shall be considered and appropriateallowance will be made. Suitable personnel protective equipments shall
be provided to prevent skin contact with paint and to prevent falls.
d) Care shall be taken for the protection of all the works and removing the
surplus material and waste from site and cleaning the working area during
and after the completion of work
e) All the safe practices will be adopted during painting activities for the
safety, health and environment as per the manufactures recommendation.
9. Distribution
Copies of this method statement shall be issued to the following for information
and action.
