Welcome to Third Grade! I will introduce you

to third grade and to our classroom.

All About Me My background

I grew up in Aiken, South Carolina. I attended the University of South Carolina

at the Aiken campus. My experience

I’ve been teaching for 9 years. I have also taught kindergarten, first,

second, and 6th-8th grades,but third is my favorite.

skills you need to progress to fourth grade.

To provide a supportive and fun classroom environment.

To help you make new friends and discover new interests.

Reading We will read and learn

about four types of literary texts this year: fiction, literary nonfiction, poetry, and drama.

Writing

We will begin to write for a variety of purposes and audiences.

As a writer you will learn to write both descriptive and narrative stories.

We will create written work that has a clear focus, sufficient detail and organization.

Math You will understand the

representation of whole numbers and fractional parts.

The addition and subtraction of whole numbers and fractional parts

You will learn methods of multiplying whole numbers.

You will also learn the relationships among multiplication, division,and related basic facts.

Classroom Community Our classroom is a community. In our

community, we have rules to help us get along with each other.

As a class family we will determine our class rules together and write a classroom constitution. We will be sure to include: Being respectful, responsible, and ready. Doing our personal best.

Homework I will assign about 45 minutes of homework

every night. This includes 20 minutes of reading.

Your homework should be written in your daily agenda and will be due each morning.

Tardiness School starts at 7:35 A.M. If you aren’t in the classroom by the

time the second bell rings, please check in at the school office before coming to class.

Behavior and Discipline We have lots of fun field trips planned for this

year! We will attend two plays at the Children’s Theater

as part of our reading units. We will visit Maple Grove park and take water

samples from the river as part of our science unit on the environment.

We will tour a bakery as part of our social studies unit on community.
