We Remember Him

When we are weary and in need of strength,

When we are lost and sick at heart,

We remember him.

When we have a joy we crave to share

When we have decisions that are difficult to make

When we have achievements that are based on his

We remember him.

At the blowing of the wind and in the chill of

winter

At the opening of the buds and in the rebirth of

spring,

We remember him.

At the blueness of the skies and in the warmth of

summer

At the rustling of the leaves and in the beauty of

autumn,

We remember him.

At the rising of the sun and at its setting,

We remember him.

As long as we live, he too will live

For he is now a part of us,

As we remember him.

The Life of

Mr. Clifton John Watson

Mr. Clifton John Watson was born on October 4, 1956, in Columbia,

South Carolina, to the late John Clifton Watson and Artlis Nelson

Watson. He was affectionally called “Chic” and/or “Cliff” by his family

and friends. He departed this life on Friday, February 23, 2018.

Clifton was a graduate of Columbia High School, Columbia, SC, class

of 1975. He furthered his education at Midlands Technical College, in

Columbia, SC, and retired from the City of Columbia, in 2014.

Cliff was known for his love of cars, bowling, gardening, cooking, joke

telling, entertaining stories, but most of all his love for family. He

always had a positive attitude and never complained, even to the end of

life. He was a person you could always count on, and who would do

anything he could for anybody. His family knew him only as a kind and

mild-mannered man, who always had a smile on his face, never meeting

a stranger. He loved watching NFL football, especially his favorite team,

the Pittsburg’s Steelers.

At an early age, Cliff joined Bishops’ Memorial A.M.E. Church with his

father, the late John C. Watson, and brother, the late Georgy A. Watson.

Cliff was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord, his pastor, and church

family with all his heart. He was a part of several church organizations

to include: the Usher Board, L. K. McDonald, Missionary, and Trustee

Board. He was a faithful worker in the church; in fact, he received the

Man of the Year Award for 2017.

He was united in Holy Matrimony to the love of his life, Vinell

Hargrove, on October 23, 2004. This union was blessed with fourteen

(14) years of marriage.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; a brother, Gregory A.

Watson; grandparents, Robert (Artlis Mickle) Nelson and Mary Watson

Cook.

Mr. Clifton John Watson leaves to cherish his fond memory: his wife,

Vinell Hargrove Watson, of Columbia, SC; a son, Darien Clifton

Watson, of Atlanta, GA; a daughter, McKenzie Watson, of Columbia,

SC; niece, Twanique R. Watson, of Columbia, SC; special

grandnephews, Malik Allen Dreher and Zy’Ion Artez Smith;

stepchildren, Lakisha (Herman) Barron, of Georgetown, SC, Lateria

(Pecolia) Scott, of Durham, NC, Tyrone Scott, of Columbia, SC, Felicia

Scott, of Columbia, SC, and Wanda Scott, of Columbia, SC; aunt, Kay

Frances W. Houston, of Jacksonville, FL; uncle, Joseph Ellison, of

Columbia, SC; one sister-in-law, Patricia (Harold) Caldwell; two

brothers-in-law, Ricky Hargrove, of Newark, New Jersey and Bobby
