Mowkawogan Summer Day Camp
CONCORD FAMILY YMCA 2017 Registration forms available online at concordymca.org
FRIENDSHIP ACCOMPLISHMENT
BELONGING
Concord YMCA camp programs offer a fun and
unique experience that gives children and teens
the opportunity to have their best summer ever,
by meeting new friends, exploring nature,
discovering new interests, being physically active
and creating memories that last a lifetime. WHAT MAKES
CAMP MOWKAWOGAN
SO UNIQUE?
It’s a day camp that truly feels like “camp”,
in a natural setting that provides opportunities
for traditional summer camp activities.
Campers will have the opportunity to engage
in programs such as archery, boating, arts and
crafts, and discovering nature while still
returning to the comforts of home at the
end of the day.
* FRIENDSHIPS: Amidst the fun of camp games, songs,
swimming, canoeing and talent shows, campers meet or
make new friends and strengthen existing friendships.
The bonds formed at camp are important and lasting for
many youth.
* ACCOMPLISHMENT: (PERSONAL GROWTH) While
in the welcoming environment of camp, youth are
encouraged to learn new skills, and develop confidence
and independence by taking on new responsibilities
and challenges.
* BELONGING: Campers are put into groups of school
age peers experiencing many activities as a camper unit.
This environment fosters a smaller camp family group to
relate to on a daily basis.
“My child is typically shy and
because of this will not try new
things, even with the friends she
has. Because of the program and
engaging staff, my child made
friends and was given the
encouragement and confidence
to try new things she wouldn’t
have done before.” - Camper Parent
“ Being part of
a camp group
this summer,
my 6 year old
son came out of
his shell and
has blossomed
into a whole
new little boy!”
- Squeaky Sneakers Parent
SQUEAKY SNEAKERS CAMP Completed Kindergarten
This camp is located at the Child Development Center (CDC) next door to the YMCA. Pick up and drop off will be at the CDC. This location provides us easy access to use the Y’s facilities for rock wall climbing and daily swimming. Campers will also go on fieldtrips for hiking and exploring at state parks. Each week will feature an exciting theme with a culminating event on Fridays at Camp Spaulding with Camp Mowkawogan. Squeaky Sneakers is a state licensed program.

LIT (Leader In Training) Completed 9-10 Grade
As part of a camper’s development, our older campers will have the ability to gain the skills necessary to become effective leaders. This is a 5-week program that fosters the YMCA leadership philosophy, affective communication and team building.
Teens participate in a mandatory training week June 26-30. This week introduces first aid/CPR skills, life guarding skills, behavior management techniques, building relationships, and a foundation for pre-employment skills.
CIT PROGRAM Must have completed our LIT Program from a previous summer
5 Week Program / Pick your own weeks (Weeks 2-9). No cost— space is limited. At the Y, we help youth set and achieve their personal and educational goals. They gain confidence as they recognize the Y as a place where they belong and can feel comfortable exploring new interests and passions. This is a unique program designed especially for teenagers with a careful balance of program components to foster creativity, adventure, peer interaction, leadership skills, values clarification and friendships that will last a lifetime.
“I think by working in the LIT program my daughter
was able to appreciate the challenges that many
young kids face every day. It helped to increase her
empathy in working with these campers. It was an
experience out of her normal comfort zone which
she really enjoyed.” -LIT Parent

WHERE KIDS GO
TO GROW
MOWKAWOGAN HISTORY Mowkawogan—a word from the local Native Americans, the Abenaki, meaning community.
Our camp introduces campers to traditional summer camp activities, and helps to prepare our youth as they discover, learn and grow becoming active members in today’s community. Day camp like many Y programs, is about learning skills, developing character and making friends. But few environments are as special as summer camp, where kids become a community as they learn both how to be more independent and how to contribute to a group as they engage in physical, social and educational activities. Every new experience comes with a chance to learn and grow.
Camp Mowkawogan is now an ACA accredited camp! What does that mean?
ACA is the American Camp Association.
• Accreditation identifies those camps which have met requirements of up to 300 health, safety, and program quality standards.
• The ACA-Accredited Camp accreditation process has 50 years of parent trust behind it and is a great way to presort among camp options.
• This process is solid proof of accountability, credibility, and commitment. Evidence that this camp cares for their campers by going to great lengths to ensure all requirements have been evaluated, and have passed the test!
• It shows you continually seek expert counsel. Experts from many fields: The American Academy of Pediatrics, American Red Cross, etc., continually work with ACA to improve our camp standards program.
• Swimsuit & Towel
• 2 Snacks
• Bagged Lunch
• Bug Spray
• Water Bottle(s)
• Extra Clothes
• Sunscreen
• Sneakers
Please label all personal items.
WHAT TO BRING TO CAMP:
OUR CAMP STAFF
You can have peace of mind when
you enroll your children in day camps
through the Concord Family YMCA.
With a low camper-to-staff ratio,
each child and teen will receive
individual attention in a safe and
supportive environment.
You can be assured that our staff are:
• VETTED: We complete reference
checks and extensive background checks on each of our camp staff.
• TRAINED: Day camp staff complete extensive pre-camp training, including first aid, CPR/AED, planning,
child abuse prevention, age-appropriate activities, and character-development awareness.
• COMMITTED: Our staff members possess extraordinary skills in working with children and a passion for
helping each child develop. Each staff is committed to helping children and teens make new friends, try new
activities and find a true sense of belonging at camp.
