• Adaptive, executable strategies in a changing environment
• Create competitive advantage by continual innovation
• Optimise organisation to meet the strategy and opportunities
• Maximise productivity of mission critical workforce
• Drive a well defined and executable sustainability agenda
High Performing Business Characteristics
Implications to the IT Infrastructure
• The need to continually cost optimise the operations
• Demonstrate value back to the business – speed to market, service availability
• An infrastructure that can scale up and down against business demand – moving to a flexible and agile environment
• Move to a Variable cost model rather than static
• Ensuring an agenda for Greening the IT Enterprise
The key objective for IT is to be an enabler to Business innovation and efficiency – not an inhibitor

The roadmap typically follows a three-phase transformation model…
Part of a holistic Infrastructure Transformation journey that addresses all aspects of IT Infrastructure
Converged IP Enterprise
Data Centre resources are commodity, pooled and virtualised, and dynamically provisioned
Workplace follows the user allowing work anywhere anytime
Services Virtualised between internal and external sources and provisioned from the Cloud
Applications Virtualised and available via multiple devices

In parallel to standardisation and virtualisation there are other key initiatives that drive a Cloud based strategy
IT Organisations are driving cost reduction in the Data Centre through standardisation and consolidation with virtualisation of the Server portfolio in many cases.
But this is just a few aspects of what IT should be looking to drive now….
• Complete virtualisation – Server, Storage and Network to provide a commoditised pool of IT Capability that can be easily provisioned
• Orchestration & Provisioning – layering on the virtualisation the ability to quickly provision IT services and to balance those across the Data Centre to meet demand and service levels
• Business Service Management – providing and end to end view back to the business on service availability and capacity discussions
• Proactive Management – move from a reactive support mechanism to a proactive and automated resolution of
• Green IT – through more energy efficient data centres and the introduction of intelligent refresh reduce the IT carbon footprint
The Next Generation of Data Centres will need to provide all of the above today, in addition to exploring and adopting Cloud computing capabilities
