MALAY CULTURE THAI CULTURE

Malaysia is a multi–ethnic, multicultural, and

multilingual society, and the many ethnic groups

in Malaysia maintain separate cultural identities.

The original culture of the area stemmed from its

indigenous tribes, along with the Malays who

moved there in ancient times.

Thai culture is deeply influenced by religion. With

around 95% of the country being Theraveda Buddhist,

the belief system and values of Buddhism play a huge

role in day-to-day life. Throughout the country, the

most important values that Thai people hold to are

respect, self-control, and a non-confrontational

attitude.

CONSERVATION

Places like the Phuket Elephant Sanctuary (the first ethical

elephant sanctuary in Phuket), put the welfare of

elephants first and do not offer bathing, rides, shows, mud

bathing, trunk hugging, elephant kisses, sitting on or lying

on the elephants, loud noisy groups, or people constantly

crowding around the elephants. What you do get is a

chance to feed and walk near them as they roam, bathe,

play, and socialize naturally and support their care.

LANGKAWI ISLANDS DAY 1: Royal Langkawi Yacht Club to the Hole in the Wall

≈4 hrs cruising

Time to leave the land and strike out for adventure! What better way than to start with “The Hole in the Wall”

Located at the Kilim Karst Geoforest Park just to the south of a small islet, west of Pulau Langguan and on the west side of

the channel, is a creek opening, locally known as the “Hole in the Wall”. There is a fish farm and a small restaurant near

the jetty for great fried rice; telephone and internet are available. For the more adventurous, the mangrove passageways

south and west lead to a number of limestone caves. The branch on the right starts at the fish farm and can be followed

for a further two miles northwest to pass right through some caves. On the other side, continue further through a newly

blasted passage into southern creek head of Tanjong Rhu. Macaque monkeys are known to be plentiful in this area and

you may see a few eating by the side.

DAY 2: Hole in the Wall to Telaga via Adaman Bay,

PHI PHI ISLANDS

DAY 6: Koh Rok to Ko Phi Phi

6.75 hrs cruising

The Phi Phi islands lie approximately 18 miles south of Krabi, the largest and most developed being Phi Phi

Don.

Ton Sai Bay is the most convenient for shopping. This is Thailand’s most popular destination, the islands are

encircled by water so clear you can almost see the seabed from the surface. The main island of Phi Phi Don

is geologically two islands joined together by a sand spit just above sea level, with a large expanse of fringing

reef in the northern bay. The honeycombed cliff faces rising from crystal clear waters, together with the

laid-back ambiance, will always attract many visotors from the neighbouring tourist hubs of Phuket, Krabi

and Phang Nga provinces.

Phi Phi Le

Maya Bay the location for the 1999 blockbuster cult film “The Beach” – is a spectacularly scenic

lagoon. Surrounded by soaring limestone cliffs, it harbours three sandy beaches. On the eastern side of the

island the Viking Cave is worth seeing.

Phuket Phuket is among the world’s finest beach destinations, with fine white sands,

nodding palm trees, glittering seas and lively towns. It has something for any

taste and budget, with hundreds of hotels to choose from, a wide choice of

dining and partying options. Aside from visiting the fantastic attractions of

Thailand’s biggest island, you can take an exhilarating speedboat trip to the

many nearby tropical paradises, or enjoy a serene cruise around the mystical

Phang Nga Bay.

DAY 7: Ko Phi Phi to Phuket

≈4 hrs cruising

For the last day of the trip we will make our way to Phuket. Phuket is blessed with more than 30 amazing

beaches to choose from. Patong Beach, Kata, Karon and Kamala have always been the most popular, but the

north of the island reveals some hidden gems for travellers searching for a more romantic atmosphere. Phuket

has an impressive selection of night markets to choose from. Each has its own unique charms, but all offer

interesting souvenirs at low prices. They are an excellent place to try local street food and snacks, and some

also have street performances and music. Being open in the evenings means that you don't get too hot while

getting your shopping fix
