Langkawi an archipelago made up of 99 islands on Malaysia’s west coast is the country’s best-known holiday destination. Surrounded by stunning turquoise sea, the interior of the main island is a mixture of picturesque paddy fields and jungle-clad hills. Still, Nature-lovers will find the island just as agreeable as the shoreline is fringed by powder-fine sand and swaying coconut trees. The island is especially recognized for its excellent diving opportunities and this tropical gem hides a treasure trove of other exciting holiday opportunities. The gastronomic options are vast and the sightseeing
LANGKAWI LANGKAWI
An archipelago consisting of 99 islands in the Andaman Sea – can be found off the mainland coast of north-western Peninsular Malaysia. It was once a sleepy backwater until 1987 when the Malaysian government granted the island tax-free status in order to promote its tourism industry. The following tourist boom was impressive and spurred Langkawi to become prominent on almost every European travel agency's.

Pantai Cenang doesn’t have many sightseeing attractions; the Langkawi Underwater World dominates the scene with its mammoth structure. Pantai Cenang’s beach is itself a popular attraction due to its beautiful sandy shores which face the crystalline waters and expansive horizon.
Nevertheless if truth be told Pantai Cenang’s claim to fame are the eateries lining the strip; easily the best fare in Langkawi where the food isn’t cheap but the menu selections are extensive. Most backpackers and package holidaymakers tend to stick to these shores because of their relative convenience.

PANTAI TENGAH
On the southernmost tip of Langkawi, lies Pantai Tengah – meaning 'Middle Beach' in Malay – a popular haven for family holidaymakers. Linked to the ever-popular Pantai Cenang just after the Lighthouse
Restaurant, this one kilometre-long beach is the longest stretch of beach in Langkawi. It is a pleasant enough strip, albeit relatively quiet; sea
activities such as boating are especially popular here.

Most people who stay in this quarter of Langkawi tend to stick to island-hopping, eagle-feeding tours and sunset dinner cruises. There are more kampungs dotting the roads than exciting and intriguing activities. There is one spa – located within Langkawi Lagoon Resort – where you can enjoy a relaxing spa treatment on the open-water chalets.
That being said, Padang Matsirat is not exactly the worse place to stay – it is tranquil and situated only 15–20 minutes away from the Pantai Cenang and Pantai Tengah stretch. Dining venues are decidedly limited but then again with Pantai Cenang just 10 minutes away, that’s not such a bad thing as this ensures that Padang Matsirat stays a relatively undisturbed locale.

In Langkawi, snorkelling and diving can be done in the Pulau Payar Marine Park, which is 19 nautical miles off Langkawi Island. Langkawi does not have any proper dive or snorkelling spots, but Pulau Payar is a fantastic place for such activities that some consider even on par with Tioman and Redang.

The Langkawi Golf Club was the first golf club to be built on the island. It boasts an 18-hole, 72-par beachfront course and close proximity to Kuah Town. The club has picturesque views around the moderately-challenging course with a lake to provide some hazard. The general golfing style here is relaxed and casual.
The Langkawi group, with its 104 islands offers great sailing and plenty of protected anchorages. Over the last few years the area has become an established sailing destination with events like the annual Langkawi Regatta, attracting boats from all over the world.

A visit to Chavana Spa at Sheraton Langkawi Beach Resort is a total sensory experience. All-natural treatments draw on the ancient health and beauty traditional of Asia, from cultures that celebrate beauty and honour nature's precious gifts.
There are slim pickings when it comes to activities to be had along Pantai Tengah. Also known as ‘Middle Beach’, the water's edge is as clean as a whistle and the air is as warm as toast but there are not many tangible goings-on along this stretch. The best and most widely-practiced daily activity are day tours to the nearby islands or mangrove excursions organized by the various local tour operators.

Kuah may feature an unattractive waterfront, but Langkawi’s main town is not completely devoid of stimulating activities. It’s not littered with spas like Pantai Cenang, nor does it feature many exciting activity options like Pantai Kok, but it is the best place on Langkawi Island to get reasonably-priced fare and duty-free goods. While Kuah may also feature far too many abandoned shop lots and a muddy manmade waterfront, it’s not a half-bad idea to spend a day or two in this quarter of Langkawi.
