Press Release From: Mountain View Fire Protection District Released: 8/10/2010 For Immediate Release Mountain View Fire Announces Food Drive Totals After Month-long Benefit The Mountain View Fire Protection District announced Monday the results of their July food drive benefiting food banks in Erie, Dacono, Niwot and Mead. 3,421 pounds of food was collected throughout the month of July. That food will be distributed to food banks in each of the above mentioned towns/cities. Those totals equate to enough collections to feed a family of four for 40 ½ weeks! Mountain View, together with several businesses in the Fire District and The Frederick-Firestone Fire Protection District in the Tri-Town area collected food for the banks as there is a need for the food all year long. “The drive was extremely successful, especially for its first year,” said event organizer Sheri Hannah-Ruh. “This is rough time for some and we have been happy to facilitate a means to help people out,” stated Hannah-Ruh. Jesse Hodgson, spokesman for Mountain View, echoed Hannah-Ruh. “We didn’t know what to expect and we’re pleasantly surprised and grateful for the generosity of everyone who donated food throughout the month. In addition, Mountain View held their own internal contest challenging its members and administration staff to donate as much as possible. The winning group‘s chief had to mow the lawn the first Friday of August. This past weekend, Fire Chief, Mark Lawley accepted the win for the administration offices and mowed at their station one. Just before mowing, Fire Chief Mark Lawley jokingly said he wished one of the shift battalion chiefs had to mow but he was going to do it with pride for the administration side. “Mowing the lawn isn’t one of my typical duties as the Fire Chief, but for this cause I am more than happy, and even enthusiastic, to do so,” concluded Lawley.
