FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents,

We have some great events to conclude the term with Edu-Dance Concert,

Parent/Teacher Interviews and the Room 3 Assembly.

You are invited to attend the Edu-Dance Concert on Monday, 1 July start-

ing at 2.15 pm in the Undercover Area. Students from Pre-Primary to Year

6 will demonstrate their dance skills. A coffee van will be onsite. Bring your

own cushion or blanket to sit on the steps.

Reporting to Parents

Teachers use a range of strategies to gather data on student achievement.

They make a judgement aligned to the achievement standard for each

learning area. Semester 1 student reports for Kindergarten to Year 6 will

be emailed to parents on Friday, 28 June. When the reports are electroni-

cally sent, email recipients will receive an email containing a link that you

will need to click on to open the report. You will need to download the re-

port immediately, save the document and/or print the document.

Email report links remain valid for 4 weeks only. If you do not receive a

“report email “please contact the Front Office. Hard copies of student re-

ports are not provided. Please note that secondary schools may require a

copy of the year reports on enrolment.

Parent/Teacher Interviews

School will close at 12.00noon on Wednesday, 3 July for Parent/Teacher

Interviews. Teachers have informed parents of interview times. This is a 10

minute discussion. Teachers will adhere to scheduled times and conclude

meetings promptly.

Please register your children at Camp Australia if your require the outside

school hours program from 12.00 to 6.00pm for this early close day.

Ceiling Replacement Program

The “old block” has plaster glass ceilings which have been under-battened.

A ceiling replacement program will begin next week and will be completed

by the start of Term 3. The project is funded by the Department of Educa-

tion. The huge renovation requires staff and students to pack up furniture

and equipment so rooms are ready for contractors.

Thank you staff for your patience and hard work to get organised for the

move! Rooms are: Staffroom, Classrooms 1, 2, and 3, Camp Australia and

Pre-Service Teachers– Edith Cowan University

We have been fortunate to have five pre-service teachers complete their final practicum at the school. They have worked exceptionally hard, participated in school activities, achieved high standards and been great to have on staff. Thank you to class teachers for being mentors and sharing your professional knowledge and practice with new colleagues of the teaching profession. On behalf of the school community we wish the pre-service teachers all the best for their future career in education.

Good bye and good luck to Ms Emily Buckingham, Ms Ellie McKay, Ms Ebony Walton, Ms Taylah Ackland and Ms Tegan Yates.

Our lovely school grounds and the work of the school gardener, Mr Edward Hinder has been noticed. Edward was invited to meet with Lisa Rodgers the new Director General of Education, principals and support staff to pro-vide feedback on the Department’s Strategic Plan.

Term 2 concludes on Friday, 5 July for the school holidays. Staff return on Monday, 22 July for a School Devel-opment Day and professional learning. Students return to school on Tuesday, 23 July.

Next term I will be taking five weeks long service leave from 22 July to 26 August. Mrs Johnson will be Acting Principal while I am on leave. I am looking forward to attending a family wedding in Ireland and catching up with the Thompson/Oakes extended family. This will be my first visit to Ireland and I am as excited as child waiting for Christmas!

To the staff and students, I hope you enjoy the school holiday break. No more packed lunches, school uniforms, homework or rushing to get to school on time. Enjoy the outdoors and staying in your pyjamas until lunch time!

Contact School Watch 1800 177 777 (24 hours) to report vandalism, damage or suspicious behaviour. If you see anything, please report it and keep watch over the school.

Faction Cross Country Carnival

A couple of weeks ago we held the Faction Cross Country Carnival at Mount Claremont Oval. All Year 3 - 6 students performed brilliantly to complete the gruelling course using a combination of skill, endur-ance and mental strength. I would like to thank all staff and students who assisted in running a smooth carnival.

Congratulations to Wambiri who won the day and take a handy lead into the Faction Athletics Carnival in Term 3.

Results: Wambiri - 170 Nyanda - 148 Boogalla - 121

Interschool Cross Country Carnival

Mount Claremont PS then ventured to Jolimont PS a week later to compete in the Interschool Cross Country Carnival. Fortunately the rain held off and our students were able to compete in the sunshine against other local schools. Well done to everyone who made the Interschool team, you all represent-ed the school magnificently and performed to your absolute best, helping Mount Claremont PS to place 5th. Thanks to all students for their efforts at cross country training over the last 7 weeks and to par-ents who assisted in marshalling the course on the Tuesday sessions.

Results: Cottesloe - 116, Dalkeith & Mosman Park - 103, Jolimont - 80, Mt Claremont - 46, Hollywood - 28

Winter Sport vs Jolimont PS

Last week all Year 4 - 6 students participated in winter sport scratch matches against Jolimont PS in the sports of soccer, hockey, netball and footy. The matches were played at Mount Claremont in prepara-tion for the Lightning Carnival in Week 9. Both of our soccer teams had great success recording com-fortable wins, whilst our hockey A team had a narrow 1 goal loss and the netball teams fought valiantly against much taller and older opposition. Thanks to all students for demonstrating wonderful sportsman-ship and attitude across all games.

Lightning Carnival

Yesterday Mount Claremont PS competed in the Lightning Carnival at College Park in Nedlands. We were extremely fortunate to not get soaked and ended up enjoying a wonderful day of competition in the sports of hockey, soccer, netball and footy. Well done to all students who represented our school, you all exhibited great competitive spirit, fair play and fantastic sportsmanship. Congratulations, to our Hockey A team who won all 5 of their matches to be crowned champions for the second time in the last 3 years. We had many other successes over the day, both of our soccer teams competed very strongly to win 3 of their 5 matches with a draw, narrowly missing out on collecting the pennant. Our netball teams also fought very hard, with the Netball A Team finishing as runners up, our best perfor-mance in recent history. Our merged footy team (Mount Jolimont PS) didn't fare too well on the score-board but had many awesome contributors and enjoyed a fun day of competition.

I would like to give a special thanks to 'super coach' Cameron Murray who has coached our Hockey A team over the last 6 years. Your assistance over a long period of time has been greatly appreciated, I know the hockey students have thoroughly enjoyed having you as a coach and your tremendous coaching record speaks for itself. I would also like to thank Fraser McRoberts for coaching our Soccer B team, it was great to have you on board!

Kind regards,

Brad Staples

Year 5/6 Assembly

On Friday, 14 June the Year 5/6 class hosted the whole school assembly. The students performed a play called, Australia's Most Influential Prime Ministers followed by a lovely rendition of the song, We Are Australian. The students excelled themselves with superb acting and singing. Mr Hart and class would like to send kudos to Miss Yates for writing the play and picking the song.

children must attend school up until they are 16 years old. Sixteen and 17 year olds must be enrolled in

school or a training organisation, be employed or be in a combination of school/training/employment.

DSM News

For our end of term event, Emma from Room 5 suggested and helped make caramel popcorn for the

ADF students to take home for afternoon tea. The students said it was “very yummy” and have offered

lots more suggestions as to what we can make!

Next term we have a new student starting at Mount Claremont Primary School, and I can’t wait to intro-

duce him to everyone! He can bear-ly contain his excitement to meet all the students. Stay tuned!
