Welcome to your Motion & Commotion choices booklet.Motion and Commotion is a new learning experience for our students andis provided for all our students in Years 7 to 10. It runs for three daystowards the end of the Summer term and the timetable for these threedays is suspended so that you can take part in one or more of theactivities.This year we offer a range of activities for all of our students to participatein through 24 pathways. Activities will be provided by staff at the academyalong with a number of art professionals and a range of outside providersand organisations.The activities are designed to appeal to our students' individual interestsand passions. These three unique days offer students the opportunity todevelop confidence, create new friendships, develop new skills and raiseaspirations for all who participate.Motion and Commotion is taking place on 4th, 5th and 6th July 2016. Allmembers of staff and students from years 7, 8, 9 and 10 will be takingpart.This booklet and choices form is being sent home to you so that you andyour parent can choose the pathway that’s right for you!Places are booked on a first come first served basis so please make surethat you return your form as soon as possible and no later than the closingdate on the form to avoid disappointment!Spend time looking through the booklet and then ensure your form isreturned no later than Thursday 24th March 2016. Remember that placesare first come, first served so you will need to be quick out of the startingblocks!

Information for students and parents.All students in years 7, 8, 9, & 10 are expected to take part.Activities either carry a charge, are free or are at a minimal cost.The programme covers a range of activities either as 3 days or mix andmatch.Some pathways have an age restriction.Activities are delivered by school staff and by some external providers.There are 24 pathways to choose from.What do I do next?Read through the booklet.Choose a pathway or pathways that you are interested in or that inspiresyou to have a go!Complete the pathways choice form making sure it is fully completed withyour name, mentor group and your choices. Places are allocated on a firstcome first served basis.Remember there are different costs for the pathways, so please makesure that your parent is happy with your choice and signs the preferenceform.Keep your booklet for reference.Return your preference form to Mr Flavell either: before school, duringbreak/lunch time or hand in to MAIN RECEPTIONPlease return your preference form NO LATER THAN THURSDAY 24thMARCH 2016Please DO NOT return any payment with your preference form. We willask for payment when you have been allocated your place. You can payCash or use On Line Banking. Details of payments will be sent to yourparent once your place is allocated.We will do our very best to accommodate your first choice but this isnot guaranteed until you have received confirmation. Confirmationof paid activities will only be sent out when your payment or depositis received. All activities are subject to minimum numbers and ifthese are not reached activities may be changed or substituted.

Photography

Spend two days out of school photographing the sights ofLondon and Bournemouth, two dynamic cities. Then, bringyour photographs into the editing suite for a workshop on howto manipulate and improve your images.This activity will culminate in an exhibition of students' workthat will be open to the public.

Spend an amazing 2 days at the Eden Project exploringthe art of nature, sustainability and change. Stayovernight at the YHA pod and see the project lit up for theevening in all its glory.

Three days ofaction-packedsports activities.

Three individual days of activities for all year groups. Day1 takes you to Charlton Lakes where you will take part invarious lakeside activities. Day 2 is spent at AndoverLeisure Centre taking part in a wide range of supervisedactivities. For the third and final day you get to visit the'JUMP' trampoline park in Southampton in the morningfollowed by an afternoon of climbing at'Rock Up' in Whiteley.

Shakespeare in 3!

Three days of Elizabethan madness with Mr Thomasculminating in a short 30 minute performance of one ofShakespeare's most famous plays. Learn the language ofthe Bard, as well as Elizabethan acting techniques whilstexploring Romeo & Juliet or Macbeth. If you want toovercome your stage-fright or just hone your acting skillsthis is the one for you!

Willow Sculpture WorkshopWorking alongside a willow artist you will createpermanent sculptures in living willow outside thecommunity entrance to the John Morgan StudioTheatre. Watch your sculptures grow and change withthe passing seasons and give enjoyment to the visitorsto our site throughout the year.

Matilda Musical Theatre Trip

Why not spend the day in London seeing Matilda. Matilda TheMusical is the multi-award winning musical from the RoyalShakespeare Company, inspired by the beloved book by theincomparable Roald Dahl. MONDAY

A day trip to Kew Gardens to draw and study the plants (bring own cameras).This visit prepares you for day 2.

TUESDAY

Georgia O’Keeffe workshop

Using Georgia O’Keeffe flowers as a starting point and drawings from the visit toKew gardens, the workshop will include silk painting and casting your hands.Your hands will be made into a large flower installation hung in the school.

WEDNESDAY

Day trip to the Tate Modern. Take part in an interactive workshop with a Tateartist followed by the Georgia O’Keeffe exhibition. Then visit the NationalPortrait Gallery to see the BP Awards.

PAYMENT FOR PATHWAYSAs our programme incorporates all students in years 7, 8, 9 and 10 wehave tried to include a wide variety of activities that cover differentinterests. Some activities carry no charge, whereas some others do.Unfortunately, the cost of paid pathways varies due to the nature of theactivity, and therefore some will naturally carry a higher charge. We havehowever, been able to subsidise most of the activities to reduce the cost.PAYMENT OPTIONSThere are a variety of ways that you can pay for your child’s chosenpathway:

• By Cash

• By On Line Payment—via Tucasi/Scopay

• By Instalments— please contact the finance office at the academy andthis can be arranged.PAYMENT PROCESS

• Please do not return any money with the preference form

• Once your child has been allocated a pathway we will send you aconfirmation form. At this point we will ask for your payment.

• Pathways will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

• Once payment has been received by the school, your child’s place ontheir chosen pathway will be secured.JUST A FINAL REMINDER ..........WHAT NEXT?

• Choose a pathway that you are interested in or that inspires you to try!

• Complete the preference form, making sure it is fully completed.

• Please ensure that the preference form is signed by your parent/guardian.Return your form. This can be either before school, during break/lunch toMr Flavell or to MAIN RECEPTION.
