Closing Bell: BSE Sensex trades higher by 144 points, or 0.44%, to 30,322, while the Nifty 50 rises 47 points, or 0.47%, to 9,445. The benchmark indices settled at fresh record closing highs on Monday after investors reacted positively to macroeconomic data released with changes in new base-year series for wholesale price index (WPI) inflation and index of industrial production (IIP), while a sharp fall in retail inflation to 2.99% in April extended a debate on whether the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) should cut interest rates. TVS Electronics jumped 9.74% to Rs207.85 on BSE after net profit spurted 627.5% to Rs 5.82 crore on 858.8% increase in net sales to Rs 941.32 crore in Q4 March 2017 over Q4 March 2016. PNB Housing Finance gained as much as 2.61% to Rs1,358.25 per share after the company has reported a jump of 49% in its net profit to Rs 152.4 crore for last quarter ended March 2017 on healthy net interest income. The company’s net profit in corresponding March quarter of the previous fiscal stood at Rs 102.60 crore. SH Kelkar lost as much as 6.74% to Rs 290 per share after it reported a rise of 12.3% in net profit to Rs 27.4 crore for Jan-Mar quarter against Rs 24.4 crore for the same quarter last year. Total income down 6.5% to Rs 269.7 crore for the quarter ended 31 Mar against Rs 288.4 crore for the same quarter last year. Shriram City Union Finance gained as much as 5.01% to Rs 2244.20 per share as they saw volume of 27,000 shares, a 14.17-fold surge over two-week average daily volume of 2,000 shares. Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Limited lost as much as 4.85% to Rs7.46 per share after it net loss widened to Rs1,366 crore for the quarter to March 2017 after booking an impairment charge of Rs 905 crore related to 800 Mhz spectrum. It has reported net loss of Rs343.39 crore in the same quarter a year ago. Shares of Piramal Enterprises gained as much as 7.63% to Rs2,808.65 per share after the company reported a rise of 61% to Rs311 crore and 46% growth in revenues for the March quarter to Rs2,463 crore. Jammu & Kashmir Bank lost as much as 3.39% to Rs81.20 per share after it reported a significant jump in net loss to Rs554.30 crore in the fourth quarter ended 31 March, due to rise in bad loans. It had posted a net loss of Rs56.02 crore in the January-March quarter of 2015-16 fiscal. UCO Bank lost as much as 8.03% to Rs38.10 per share as it narrowed its loss to Rs588.19 crore during the March quarter as provisions for bad assets fell. Inox Wind lost as much as 19.53% to Rs162.50 per share after its consolidated net profit dipped 36% to Rs127.54 crore in the quarter ended 31 March. The company’s consolidated net profit was Rs201.12 crore in the corresponding quarter a year ago. Oil prices held steady on Monday, supported by expectations that Opec and Russia have agreed to extend a production cut beyond the first half of this year. However, another rise in US drilling activity weighed on markets. Brent crude futures, the international benchmark for oil prices, were at $50.86 per barrel. US WTI crude futures were at $47.88 a barrel, little changed from the last settlement at $47.84.

News: Idea Cellular lost as much as 3.20% to Rs89.35 per share after it reported

a consolidated loss of Rs325.6 crore in the three-month period ended 31 March. The company had posted a profit of Rs449.2 crore in the same period a year ago, bashed by a severe tariff war.

Titan lost as much as 3.53% to Rs477.05 per share after it reported only 7.4% increase in net profit to Rs200.71 crore for the fourth quarter ended 31 March. It had reported a net profit of Rs186.88 crore in the same quarter of 2015-16.

JK Cement Ltd gained as much as 10.19% to Rs1,181 per share after its stand-alone net profit rose 30.43% to Rs91.37 crore for the March quarter against Rs70.05 crore for the same quarter last year. Revenue grew 7.74% to Rs1,018.85 crore against Rs945.69 crore for the same quarter last year.

Tepid US economic data and another missile test by North Korea are weighing on investor sentiment. Over the weekend, US markets closed slightly lower. S&P 500 at 2,390 points is down 0.15%.

The 10-year benchmark bond yield fell 9 bps to 6.82%, its lowest since April, from its 6.91% close on Friday, Meanwhile, the rupee rose to 64.09 per dollar, its strongest since April 27, on expectations of additional

foreign portfolio inflows into Indian markets.
