In order to get the ultimate benefit from your PELLUX 200 you should read through these Installation and Maintenance Instructions.The numbers in brackets refer to the section “Component locations” on page ?.

PELLUX 200 is a combi boiler for pellets and electricity. The boiler is intended for houses with waterborne heating.

The controls are gathered and easily viewed in the front panel.

The serial number* (95) must always be stated in all correspondence with NIBE.

System description

Area of use

PELLUX 200 is heating boiler intended for heating housesand other small buildings.

Product description

PELLUX 200 is a specially developed combi-boiler for pelletfiring. PELLUX 200 is developed to suit all types of modernpellet burners. Pellet burner NIBE PB10 is connected directlyto the burner hatch with the fixing element supplied.

An upright convection system and automatic sweeping facil-itate cleaning. This also gives a high and even level of effi-ciency. A generously sized ash box facilitates the normalmaintenance.

PELLUX 200 has a top connection and is equipped with acharge automatic device for the preparation of domestic hotwater.

Available output in pellet mode is max. 25 kW.

Heating

The boiler water is led from the top of the boiler to the radi-ator circuit via a shunt valve (SV), where the desired temper-ature to the radiators is maintained by mixing the hot boilerwater with the cooled return water from the radiator circuit.

Hot water heating

The boiler is equipped with an internal circulation pump thatis controlled by a temperature sensor and starts automaticallywhen the temperature drops.

Hot water heating is in an external hot water heater.

General

All the most common settings are made from the panel aswell as control computer instructions such as comfort etc.that you require the boiler system to fulfil. In order for theinstallation to be used optimally, certain default settings musthave been made and the installation carried out accordingto the relevant instructions.

This is the menu that is displayed when PELLUX 200 is in itsnormal mode which occurs when the menu buttons havenot been used for a period. The menu displays the boiler'stemperature and the outdoor sensor's temperature.

Control computer

The boiler is controlled by a computer that ensures that allcomponent parts work in the most efficient way for the rel-evant operation.

It controls and monitors hot water production and providesinformation about set control conditions. In the event of amalfunction, an alarm and warnings are transmitted to thedisplay to keep the user informed about the conditions at alltime. At the same time, the boiler is controlled in a way thatprevents damage to the installation.

The status menu always displays the boiler water temperatureand the outdoor sensor temperature. Boiler water temperat-ure is measured at the height of the flow line connection.

The pressure gauge is graduated from 0-4 bar. The red needlecan be set to 2.5 bar which is the boiler’s maximum permittedworking pressure.

In closed systems the normal working pressure during oper-ation can vary up to the red marking depending on the in-stallation’s variable temperatures.

Shunt

The shunt valve controls the heat supply from the boiler tothe radiator system. On this boiler the shunt valve is automat-ically controlled by a shunt motor, which means that manualadjustment is not required.

If you wish to make a manual change press the knob on themotor and turn to the desired position.

Pellet burner

For the best economy and minimum environmental impactit should be ensured that the pellet burner is always optimallyadjusted. Checking and adjusting is carried out by a specialistand should be carried out before every firing season. Forfurther information about this refer to the relevant manualfor the pellet burner.

Circulation pump

Even if the circulation pump, for a longer period is set to“OFF”, the boiler’s computer will run the pump 2 x 3min/day. This is so that the circulation pump does not jam.

Sweeping

Fire regulations state at what intervals a boiler and its chim-ney must be swept; contact a professional chimney sweepfor more information.

! WARNING!The current to the boiler must be switched off duringservice and maintenance of the boiler and burner.

The boiler is equipped with automatic sweeping of the flues,which means that manual sweeping of these is not requiredbetween the chimney sweep’s normal visits. In order to obtainthe optimal efficiency with a modern and correctly adjustedpellet burner the boiler’s other fire affected surfaces shouldbe cleaned/swept occasionally between the chimney sweep’svisits.

Before the sweep visits, the hatch for any draft limiter mustbe locked by turning the locking screw a quarter turn to theside of the hatch. This is to prevent soot from entering theboiler room when the chimney is swept. After sweeping thehatch must be unlocked again.

REMEMBER:

When the hatch for the combustion chamber (77) opens, allcurrent to the pellet burner is automatically cut. The hatchmust be fully closed in order for the burner to start operation.

Check the optimum setting of the burner flame through thesight glass.

At the bottom of the hearth there is a removable ash boxthat collects ash and facilitates emptying the ash. The box isgenerously sized and has room for ash from two month’snormal firing.

NOTEAsh can still contain glowing embers after a long

period of time. Therefore, always use a non-inflam-mable container and protective gloves when emptying

ash and soot.

General information for the installer

Boiler room

The boiler room must be built in accordance with applicablebuilding regulations.

Provision for good air supply. The boiler room’s air intakemust be as large as the smoke pipe duct.

NOTEEnsure that sweeping can be carried out in accordancewith the applicable regulations. If in doubt, contact a

chimney sweep.

Chimney

It is important that the flue is of sufficient diameter andheight that over pressure does not occur in the boiler andflue.

PELLUX 200 has an upward top connection with an internaldiameter of 125 mm and is intended for connection to achimney with a minimum interior diameter of 125 mm. Therecommended minimum chimney height for this diameter is6 m at 16 – 20 kW output. The chimney draft is very import-ant and should be 15 to 25 Pa. For the best combustion andthe lowest environmental impact a draft limiter should beused. The boiler is supplied with a draft limiter and an angledflue pipe for rear connection. Straight flue pipe for connec-tion upwards available as accessory.

The flue needs to be inspected before installation.

Assembly

The boiler is equipped with adjustable feet. The boiler canbe raised by varying the screwed out length of the feet.

Connection

Pipes are to be installed in accordance with the applicableheating and hot water standards. Internal support bushesshould be fitted when annealed steel or copper pipe is used.

The supplied drain valve is installed in the connection on theboiler’s right or left sides. The shunt is equipped with com-pression ring couplings.

The overflow pipe from the safety valves must be routed toa floor drain to prevent hot water splashes when checkingthe valves or when bleeding the boiler. The outlet of theoverflow pipe should be visible. The overflow pipe must belaid frost free and sloping along its entire length.

The hot water circuit must be equipped with a mixer valveto prevent scalding.

Current regulations require the heating installation to be in-spected before it is commissioned. The inspection must becarried out by a suitably qualified person. The installationinspection must be documented. The above applies to install-ations with a closed expansion vessel. If the boiler or the ex-pansion vessel is replaced, the installation must be inspectedagain.

If the heating system is equipped with an open expansionvessel, the distance between the highest radiator and theexpansion vessel may not be less than 2.5 m.

PB 10 is installed in the outlet for the burner on PELLUX 200'sburner door. NIBE PB 10 is then tightened into position usingthe knobs supplied for the burner.

Draft limiter

The draft is dependent on the chimney's cross-section, height,position of the building, wind conditions, outdoor temperat-ure, boiler output, flue gas temperature and soot build-up.

The majority of today's boilers are installed on and connectedto older chimneys. Sometimes the chimneys have a cross-section and insulation that is not suitable for replacementbetween different fuels.

Great deviations in draft can cause different conditions inthe boiler's firebox. To minimize this as well as the risk ofany damage caused by condensation in the chimney, thereis a draft equaliser (draft limiter, supplied) that is adaptedfor installation on the boiler's flue pipe.

Installing the draft limiter for chimneys

The draft limiter has a newly developed design that makesinstallation on the flue pipe possible in all positions. Vertical,angled as well as horizontal. The draft limiter is installed onan adjustable panel that replaces the existing soot hatch.

Adjusting vacuum

Adjust the vacuum when the hatch is opened by pressingthe clamp together in which the weight is located and moveit along the shaft. Alter the vacuum by 1 Pa per 2 mm, whenmoving the weight. These are approximate values and mustbe checked using a draft gauge if exact values are required.

Upon delivery, the hatch is set at 10 Pa.

At the correct setting, the hatch must open smoothly andevenly when the burner is not in operation.

Adjusting the balance shaft

After installation, slacken off the two locking screws slightlyand turn the balance shaft so that it is horizontal when thehatch is closed. Then tighten the screws.

To access the extended menus the back button must be heldin for approx 7 seconds. The control system automaticallyreturns to the start menus approx 10 minutes after the lastbutton push. This can also be carried out manually using theback button.

Electrical installation

Connection

Disconnect the pellet boiler before insulation testing thebuilding.

PELLUX 200 must be installed via an isolator switch with aminimum breaking gap of 3 mm.

Voltage/supply is connected to terminal block X9.

NOTEElectrical installation and service must be carried outunder the supervision of a qualified electrician. Electric-al installation and wiring must be carried out in accord-

ance with the stipulations in force.

NOTEThe switch (8) must not be moved from "0" until theboiler has been filled with water. Otherwise the tem-perature limiter, thermostat and immersion heater may

be damaged.

Internal fuse protection

The automatic heating control system, circulation pump (16),burner and its cabling, are internally fuse protected with aminiature circuit breaker (7).

Connecting the outside sensor

Install the outdoor sensor in the shade on a wall facing northor north-west, so it is unaffected by the morning sun. Thesensor is connected with a two-wire cable to terminal block(X2), terminals “1” and “2”. The minimum cable cross-sec-tion should be 0.4mm2 up to lengths of 50 metres, for ex-ample, EKKX or LiYY.

Connection of flow sensor

On delivery, the flow line sensor (89) is positioned in frontof the shunt motor. Pull out the sensor and install it on theflow line. It is important that the contact between the sensorand pipe is good and that the sensor is well insulated.

External control

Burner

Burner operation can be blocked by connecting a potentialfree contact to relay card terminal block (X2), terminals 7and 8. The burner is blocked when the contact closes.

Lowering the room temperature

By connecting a potential free contact to the relay card ter-minal block (X2) terminal 3 and 4, the heat curve can beoffset. If the contact closes, the selected heat curve is offsetby the set value in menu 1.3. The function can, for example,be connected to a room thermostat or a telephone controlrelay.

Note that if this function is activated the control system doesnot make any consideration of the normal curve offset inmenu 1.1.

Output for external circulation pump

External circulation pump connected to intended terminalblock (X 4), terminals 1 - 3, see also section “Wiring diagramfor power supply to external units”. The pump is operatedusing the set values in menu 1.4 (ON) respectively menu 1.5(OFF).

The circulation pump is internally fused.

Starting point for connecting external alarms

External alarms are connected to the intended terminal block(X 22), terminal 1-3.

The alarm is tripped if:

the overheat protection is tripped

the burner door is open

the boiler sensor is defective

the flow line sensor is defective

freeze protection is active

Malfunctions

Causes and actions in event of malfunctions

In the event of a malfunction or disruption to normal operation, first check the points below:

! WARNING!If work behind covers or panels must be carried outthe safety breaker must be locked or the group fuses

removed!

The boiler water section must be water filled beforestarting, otherwise the temperature limiter function

may be endangered.

Low hot water temperatureAbnormally large hot water outlet, see section"Hot waterheating" on page 4.

Mixer valve set too low.

Closed or throttled shut off valves to heat exchanger (orto hot water heater if present).

Tripped temperature limiter (5). It may have tripped duringtransportation.

Note! A tripped temperature limiter is a warning, if it occursmore than once a service engineer must be called.

Internal circulation pump (16) capacity set too low ordoes not start.

Too high domestic water flow.

Malfunctions in the pellet burner. See special instructionsfor the burner.

Load monitor or external control may have blocked theburner.

Circuit or main MCB tripped.

Possible earth circuit-breaker tripped.

Switch set to 0.

Incorrectly set operating modes.

Closed or throttled filler valve for the hot water heater.

The hot water temperature is set at too low a value.

Low room temperatureIncorrectly set shunt valve (when manually shunting).

Tripped temperature limiter (6). It may have tripped duringtransportation.

Note! A tripped temperature limiter is a warning, if it occursmore than once a repairman must be called.

Air in the boiler or radiator system.

Closed valve in the radiator circuit.

The circulation pump is switched off or has jammed, seesection "Helping the circulation pump to start".

Malfunctions in the pellet burner. See special instructionsfor the burner.

Miniature circuit breaker (7) tripped.

Max flow line temperature set too low.

Possible earth circuit-breaker tripped.

Switch set to 0.

External control may have blocked the burner.

Circuit or main MCB tripped.

High room temperatureAutomatic heating control system settings incorrect.

Shut off the circulation pump.

Loosen the venting screw with a screwdriver. Hold a clotharound the screwdriver blade as a certain amount ofwater may run out.

Insert a screwdriver and turn the pump rotor.

Screw in the venting screw.

Start the circulation pump and check that the circulationpump functions.

It is usually easier to start the circulation pump if it is switchedon. If helping the circulation pump to start is performed inswitched on mode, be prepared for the screwdriver to jerkwhen the pump starts (external circulation pump not includedin delivery).

NOTEWhen returning to normal mode do not forget to resetthe shunt knob to its original position by turning the

knob until it springs out.

Sweeping

! WARNING!The current to the boiler must be switched off duringservice and maintenance of the boiler and burner.

Sweeping description

Before the sweep visits, the hatch for the draft limiter mustbe locked by turning the locking screw a quarter turn to theside of the hatch. This is to prevent soot from entering theboiler room when the chimney is swept. After sweeping, thehatch must be relocked.

PELLUX 200 swept by pulling through the channels in theboiler's convection section with the supplied soot brush andvacuuming the hearth.

The turbulators must be removed before the ducts are swept. First ensure that the current to the boiler is switched off.Open the soot hatch and pull the lever arm under the turbu-lator pair until it is in the upper position. The turbulators canbe removed in their pairs.

After completed cleaning the turbulators are installed andthe soot hatch is reinstalled.

NOTEAsh can still contain glowing embers after a long

period of time. Therefore, always use a non-inflam-mable container and protective gloves when emptying

ash and soot.
