Direct object pronouns are the nouns that receive the action caused by a subject. These words are used to take the place of a noun that is repeated often in a certain set of thoughts. In english, the direct object pronouns are:

Me, you, it/him/her, us. In Spanish, the 'DOPs' are used for the same reason, but the sentence

structure is different from English. The Spanish DOPs are: Me, te, lo/la, los/las, nos

EXAMPLES IN ENGLISH

• My mom cooks the lobster.

• What receives the action?

• The lobster is what receives the action, so it is the direct object.

• "My mother cooks the lobster." can be rewritten as "My mother cooks it."

In Spanish, the direct object is placed in font of the action being

done.

My mother cooks the lobster. Mi madre cocina la langosta.

To change 'la langosta' to a DOP, you first must identify two things:

what is the gender; is it plural?

La langosta is a singular feminine word, so you need to use the

word appropriate for it.

SPANISH DOPS

• Because 'la langosta' is a singular feminine word, you use 'La.'

• Mi madre cocina la langosta.

• Mi madre la cocina.

• In Spanish, when a DOP is used, it will go before the action that the subject causes.
