Scandi is probably the most enduringly popular interiorstrend of the past decade, bringing a touch of the sleek, minimalistic and functional to our homes. But the lookisn’t all flat-pack furniture, white walls and unstained

wood. Consider this room at Hotel Sanders in Copenhagen.Rich, varied textures – from jute to well-tanned leather – sit inharmony with an autumnal colour palette of whiskies and caféau lait, while stylish decorative touches retain the ‘hygge’ feelingof cosiness but with a smart attitude. The main focal point isthe paired leather Crillon armchairs by Soane Britain. With brasslegs, gently sloped backs and elongated arms, they are the pictureof elegance, but deep padded seats and backs ensure they remaina comfy spot on which to relax with a book. Opposite the chairs

is a small checked sofa that in other settings could look overlytraditional, but topped with a bounty of scatter cushions andpartnered with a glass and brass coffee table, feels fresh andmodern. Don’t underestimate the effect of those black-paintedwindow frames, either. Their striking silhouette breaks up whatcould be a sea of beige, giving the space a sophisticated edge andhighlighting the eight attractively proportioned window panes. Our favourite feature, though, is the wooden double doors. They add rustic warmth in spades and provide architecturalintrigue. The scheme is completed with a smattering of mutedcontemporary art, cut flowers and low-level lighting – try Okafor similar lamp shades and bases – that when in use fills the space with a warm and inviting amber glow.
