Alok Kumar Verma, New Commissioner of Police at Deer Park on 10.4.16 & release of Souvenir - 2016 For the first time, Confederation of Senior Citizens Associations of Delhi (an umbrella body of 11 lakh senior citizens) organized an interaction session with Sh Alok Kumar Verma, Commissioner of Delhi Police in the presence of more than 500 senior citizens across Delhi at Deer Park on 10/04/2016. Other Police Officers namely S/Shri P. Kamraj, Special Commissioner Law and Order, R.S. Krishniya, Joint CP (Southern Range), now promoted as Special Commissioner Ishwar Singh, D.C.P. South, Sanjay Bhatia, Additional DCP (South), S.P. Tyagi A.C.P and Inspector V.N. Jha, S.H.O. were also present. The Chief Guest was H.H. Swami Chidanand Saraswati , President, Parmarth Niketan Ashram, Rishikesh. Guests of Honours were Yogiraj Padamshri Bharat Bhushan, Haridwar, Rajrishi Gangey Hans of Varanasi, Sant Shri Hari of Haridwar, Dr. Deepak Kumar, Ayurved Shashtri, Haridwar, J.R. Gupta, President, Senior Citizens Council of Delhi and Prof. Dr. Mahavir Agrawal , former Vice Chancellor, Uttarakhand Sanskrit University.The Conference was addressed by a galaxy of experts on yoga, meditation , ayurveda and naturopathy. Through out the day, the eminent speakers told about various tips on yoga and meditation on all the three days in different sessions for keeping good health without taking medicines. Practical sessions on yoga were also organized daily in the morning. In a notification dated March 18, the finance ministry has stated the Fund shall be an interest bearing account, administered by a Committee consisting of nine members. The committee will be headed by Secretary in the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment who shall be the ex-officio Chairperson along with officials from Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Ministry of Rural Development and Ministry of Labour and Employment among others. The nodal ministry for the administration of the Fund shall be the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. The rate of interest for the money lying in the Fund shall be determined and notified by the Central Government in the Ministry of Finance on an annual basis, the notification said. - Editor

participating in the Global Conference and enjoyed cultural programme. Special Aarti was performed at the banks of river Ganga at Rishikesh followed by dinner with the courtesy of Swami ji . The Conference concluded with Ganga snan and Poojan at Har-Ki-Paudi, Haridwar on 21.03.16 . The Conference was very well organised and the delegates were taken care of very well till their departure from Haridwar with the sincere efforts of Shri J.R. Gupta. The delegates utilized the Conference also to interact and share their experiences with those of other cities. All the participants were of the view that such Conference should be continued to be organized every year. Moreover, they also utilized 3 days time with their counterparts by ignoring loneliness in their routine life. To motivate such a large number of senior citizens , as a good will gesture , Senior Citizens Council of Delhi borne 50% amount of registration fee in respect of 125 participants . Shri J.R. Gupta was felicitated by H.H. Swami Chidanand Saraswati Ji, President, Parmarth Niketan Ashram, Rishikesh for motivating delegates in such a large number and also appreciated the various activities of the Council being organised daily at Delhi including protection of lonely senior citizens from abuses/humiliations at the hands of their own children and others. Senior Citizens Council of Delhi organized a community activity on Incontinence in association with Unicharm India Pvt. Ltd. & Senior Citizens Welfare Association on 17.03.16 at Hanuman Mandir, Sant Nagar East of Kailash to create awareness & educate people on Incontinence category through power presentation. The session was very interactive & informative and audience found it useful. Information booklet & samples were also distributed followed by refreshments. - A report by G.R. Sehgal, President

He also spoke about rules and regulations of Maintenance of Parents and Senior Citizens Act 2007 and stressed the need for its awareness among senior citizens of Delhi by giving an advertisement in the newspapers shortly by Delhi Police. He also ordered that Beat Constables would meet senior citizens weekly and SHO Level meetings could be held in every month regularly at the place identified by the Confederation in each district. Simultaneously, meetings would also be held at the level of D.C.P at least in 3 month on regular basis. On this point, J.R. Gupta, Chairperson offered a suitable space with large number of senior citizens for such meetings in each district, provided at least one month notice is given for making such arrangements and publicity. A few senior citizens demanded that identity cards should also be issued to those who are living with their children at the level of SHO like lonely SeniorCitizens. “The Commissioner agreed to issue identity cards to such Senior Citizens who are living with their children on receipt of their request.” On behalf of most of the women senior citizens, Mrs Kamlesh Popli of Safdarjung Enclave, complained about chain snatching incidents and the Commissioner ordered to his officers to identify such places throughout Delhi and keep a close watch. The Confederation brought to the notice of the Commissioner that at present more than 1 lakh senior citizens are residing alone and as such there is a need for its awareness. The Commissioner ordered that hence forth, drive for registration would be revived in all the Police Stations. He further sought the cooperation of residents to get their domestic helps verified to discourage incidents of house thefts . He assured that in future, cops would be briefed to build their soft skills in dealing with the public and also

ordered to strengthen the foot patrolling in each area. He also released Souvenir 2016 of Senior Citizens Council of Delhi containing useful information for senior citizens including telephonic directory & parv utsav patrika 2016-17. He was also felicitated with a shawl and a memento by J.R. Gupta, President of the Council and other members. Other police officers were also felicitated. On this occasion, Hon'ble Mr. Prem Koonjoo, Minister of Ocean Economy and Fisheries, Govt. of Mauritius was also felicitated along with his wife. H E Mr Jagdishwar Goburdhun, Mauritius High Commissioner was also felicitated. Earlier, Mrs Veenu Gupta, eminent singer and wife of Shri Virendra Gupta (Retd.) Ambassador to South Africa, recited many devotional songs which were appreciated by all present. Shri J.R. Gupta also felicitated her including her husband and artists. 1) The Supreme Court expressed concern for the over 10 crore senior citizens in the country, a majority of whom are deprived of love, care and respect by their kin in a fast-paced world. The Govt. was asked for a road map to provide them basic facilities like shelter, food and healthcare. "At present, India has a population of 10.38 crore senior citizens . Their number to increase to 14.3 crore by 2021. In most of the cases it has been observed that their children neglect them the most to the extent that in some cases , they are dependent on neighbors for food.” (source:- TOI dated 9/4/2016)

2) Confederation of Senior Citizens Associations of Delhi ( an umbrella body of 11 lakh senior citizens ) has requested Chief Minister of Delhi to waive off the stamp duty in respect of senior citizens who wants transferring their immovable properties in the name of their children / blood relations as Haryana Govt. has already remitted the stamp duty vide its notification dated 16/06/2014 .

3) The Confederation of Senior Citizens Associations of Delhi had taken up the issue with the Chief Minister of Delhi on 26.3.2016 for the exemption of 70 plus Senior Citizens during ODD-EVEN events from 15th - 30th April 2016.A communication dated 6.4.2016 has been received from the OSD to Chief Minister that our request is being considered by Sh. Gopal Rai, Transport Minister of Delhi Govt.

Triveni Senior Citizens Forum held their General Body meeting and celebrated Joint Birthday of February born members on 6.3.2016 in the presence of 120 members. In the GBM, it was decided to hold elections to elect the Managing Committee for next two years. - A report by R C Sharma, President
