…anticipation/realization…

There’s an old saying, “Anticipation is greaterthan realization.” Well, there are some thingsthat happen in life that don’t fit this expression,

like really wonderful love, sex and children. The realization ofthese experiences is far greater than anyone can anticipate.I learned about anticipation when as a youngster, as did many

of you reading this, I looked forward to the moment the Sear’sChristmas Catalog arrived in the mail in mid-fall. It was thefirst thing I looked at every day after school, on weekendsand in bed, under the covers with a flash light. Oh the dreamsof all the fun I could have riding a shiny Schwinn bike, sleekred scooters, shoe roller skates; a tennis racquet, chemistryset, magician’s set; and most of all, an erector set! I loved tobuild things then and I still do.The Sear’s Christmas Catalog became dog-eared and waspretty beat-up looking by December 24. I folded back thepages that held pictures of my favorite wishes and turned tothem over and over again. The erector set was on the upper

left hand side of the page. The Schwinn bicycle wasillustrated on the upper right hand page, girl’s bike first andboy’s bike next to it.I did have fun anticipating Christmas, Santa Claus, our tree, the warm glow throughout the house, egg nog, and Christmasdinner. I had months to anticipate and only a week to realize.Yes, anticipation, because it lasted so much longer, wasgreater than realization. But the realization was so wonderfulthat it only created a greater anticipation the next year! Sortof a which came first chicken and egg kind of thing!Merry Christmas to our readers and advertisers!

Answer to last Word Wise: Not a wise one:profligate, collection, squandered, haphazard, bankruptcy. Spendthrift.

Are You going?

WHY DON’T WE SAY “MERRY CHRISTMAS!?”Twas two months before ChristmasWhen all through our land,Not a Christian was prayingNor taking a stand.

Why the PC Police had taken awayThe reason for Christmas - no one could say.The children were told by their schools not to singAbout Shepherds and Wise Men and Angels and things. It might hurt people’s feelings, the teachers would sayDecember 25th is just a ‘ Holiday ‘.Yet the shoppers were ready with cash, checks and creditPushing folks down to the floor just to get it !CDs from Madonna, an X BOX, an I-PodSomething was changing, something quite odd!As Targets were hanging their trees upside downAt Lowe’s the word Christmas - was nowhere to be found. At K-Mart and Staples and Penny’s and SearsYou won’t hear the word Christmas; it won’t touch your ears.Inclusive, sensitive, Di-ver-is-tyAre words that were used to intimidate me.Now Daschle, Now Darden, Now Sharpton, Wolf BlitzenAt the top of the Senate, there arose such a clatterTo eliminate Jesus, in all public matter. And we spoke not a word, as they took away our faithForbidden to speak of salvation and grace

The true Gift of Christmas was exchanged and discardedThe reason for the season, stopped before it started. So as you celebrate ‘Winter Break’ under your ‘Dream Tree’Sipping your Starbucks, listen to me.Choose your words carefully, choose what you sayShout MERRY CHRISTMAS! It’s the correct way!

CLARK FAMILY OF QUEENSBURY AWARDED INTHE FRESH AIR FUND’S ANNUAL PHOTO CONTEST

Queensbury residents, the Clark fami ly, celebrated the pure joys of summer with The Fresh Air Fundnd were among the winners of The Fresh Air Fund’s 2014 Photo Contest! All winners were selectedrom the hundreds of pictures sent in by volunteer host families across 13 states from Virginia to

Maine and Canada, reflecting the memorable experiences they shared with their New York Cityisitors this past summer. Categories include “Laketime Fun,” “Summer Siblings,” “By the Beach,”nd “Fresh Air Foodies.” Kasey Clark’s photo was determined the winner in the “Laketime Fun”ategory, and features Fresh Air visitor Aminat, age 8, lounging at a local get-together in Bolton

Landing on an inflatable float with her sister, Hafsat, age 10, who visited Kasey’s parents, Keith andKimberly Dubay. “Having a large group of the kids together at the picnic was great because you goto see the joy in all of their eyes. There were so many first experiences playing in the water, kayaking,nd going in the hot tub and each one of them thought he or she was the luckiest one of all,” said Kim

Dubay, Kasey’s mother, about her experience at the get-together. The Fresh Air Fund, an independent,ot-for-profit agency, has provided free summer experiences to more than 1.8 million New York Cityhildren from low-income communities since 1877. For more information on hosting a Fresh Air childext summer, please contact Kim Smith at 518-812-4869 or visit The Fresh Air Fund online at
