PROVIDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR SPORTING SUCCESS Each year difficult decisions need to be made about which sporting competitions should be entered. Many factors are taken into account including the opportunity for success, staff skills and community values. This year Molong Central School sporting teams and individuals have reached many finals despite being limited by opportunities to train as extreme weather conditions interfered with scheduling events and training opportunities. Staff at Molong Central not only coach and manage teams but also cover for colleagues who accompany the teams to the various events. Without this good will our teams would not be able to compete. There are many parents who juggle work commitments in order to transport not only their own children, but offer assistance to other children, to ensure students are provided with these opportunities. Thank you for your assistance, it is much appreciated. Listed below are some of the benefits of sport.
Team sports provide children with important lessons on personal values.
Children who play team sports are less likely to feel isolated.
Team sports can encourage parents to become active with their children.
Team sports help children deal with winning and losing.
Team sports can help children overcome shyness. Sport played at representative levels also encourages students to be organised and provides opportunities for travel and meeting other students, these experiences can have a long lasting impact on students and allows them to expand their horizons into the future. Below are more of our successful teams and individuals who have represented Molong Central School with great distinction and pride and who have gone on to represent at State Carnivals, or who are about to embark on the final leg of PSSA Knockout competitions, an amazing effort. AGVISION On Tuesday afternoon, we left school and travelled with Miss Pokoney in her car to West Wyalong. Unfortunately, due to the recent rain we were turned back after Eugowra and had to take the scenic route through Goologong and Grenfell. We eventually made it to West Wyalong and enjoyed a BBQ and bowls night with the students from West Wyalong HS, Nepean HS and Caroline Chisholm Catholic HS who we'd be spending the next day with. We arrived at Junee HS on Wednesday to join a contingent of about 500 other students and 60 different agricultural career presenters. We separated from each other for six different sessions which were personalised according to our preferences and job interests. We had a great day and even got to have a stop at the Junee chocolate factory before we left. We would like to thank Miss Pokoney for driving us to and from West Wyalong and Mr and Mrs Pokoney for the use of their accommodation for the night. DEBATING On the 31st of August, Molong Central hosted a ‘round robin’ debating competition for Years 7 and 8. Our strong Molong team Katelan Philpott, Bridie Dive, Mercades Oste and Sharna Campbell, participated in 3 debates on the day. The teams’ first debate was against Wellington A, the topic was “that all school work except for art should be done on computers”. Although it was Wellington’s first debate, they spoke well, but in the end Molong came out on top. In our second debate, the Wellington B team was very strong. The topic for this debate was “that all reality TV cooking shows should be banned”. As the affirmative, the Molong team found it rather difficult to come up with a strong argument, but luckily we still were victorious. At this point in the competition the Molong team and Mudgee team were neck and neck, heading into the grand final. The topic for the final debate was “that all beauty pageants should be banned”, the Molong team was given the affirmative side. By the end of the debate both sides were very close, but unluckily for the Molong team the adjudicator decided Mudgee had a stronger argument. The day was great experience, and hopefully next year the Molong team will come away with the win. Mrs Eccleston, Debating coordinator

Touch Girls Victorious! Recently our Girl’s Touch Football team have had some fantastic success in the PSSA Knockout Competition. On Friday 26th August our girls travelled into Orange to compete in Round 3 against Glenroi Public School. The girl’s commitment to regular training sessions proved successful as they dominated in this game coming away with a 14-0 win. On Wednesday 7th September, the girls competed in Cowra in round four against Mulyan Public School. With some tries very early on, the girls continued to play extremely well and once again, proved to be the dominant team, gaining an 8-1 win. In this game the girls showed how far they have come with their skills and teamwork and many people commented on what a strong, athletic group of girls they are. We now have a semi-final game to look forward to against Lithgow Public School, in Lithgow, on Friday 16th September. A very, very special thank you must go out to Tania Bohringer who has dedicated so many hours of her time to train our team. The knowledge and skills she has passed on to the girls has been instrumental to their success and we have been extremely lucky to have had Tania assist us with our training. Thank you also to the parents and family members who have dedicated their time to help with travel arrangements and who have come to cheer on the girls throughout the competition. Your support is very much appreciated. We wish our girls all the very best for their upcoming game and we want them to know that we are so proud of their success so far and the excellent way they have represented Molong Central School. Hi Everyone,
Last week I mentioned that on Tuesday 13th September, the World
will celebrate 100 years of Roald Dahl. His official website at:

children may listen to extracts of stories, play games or complete
quizzes on his books and characters.
To celebrate this SPLENDIFEROUS occasion I will have some
Roald Dahl activities happening during Lunch. It may be nice to
choose a book written by Roald Dahl to read to your child at this
very special time.
We will be holding the Book Week Character Parade on Thursday
22nd
September at 2:00 pm. There will be no prizes but each child
who participates will receive a Merit Award. Please put some
thought into your child’s costume as the theme is Australian Book
Characters. I look forward to seeing you at the parade.
