TAILORED INPUTSThe BoomBox embeds software-independent pro-tections that block all outputs in case of any error within a few microseconds. This reliable mechanism is often very useful when the control software is not yet entirely stable and allows to work in real-life applica-tions with a complete peace of mind.

Besides, thanks to its flexible analog front-end – with high- or low-Z inputs, filters and gains – moving from one application to another can be done in minutes.

SEMI-INDUSTRIAL MODULESThe PowerTrench modules embed a half-bridge (i.e. phase-leg) of two power switches from IXYS semi-conductors, which can be freely selected among four possible types of devices. This allows various configu-rations, ranging from 600 VDC to 1200 VDC and 40–100 A depending on the switching frequency (LF- or MF-oriented).The modules also possess local desaturation detec-tion, as well as voltage and current sensors, hence facilitating a quick implementation.Two cooling variants are available, either using forced air cooling (80 W TDP) or water cooling (250W TDP).

TEACHING-ORIENTED MODULESThe reduced ratings (10–15 A and 200 V) of the smaller modules are targeted for proof-of-concept and teach-ing-oriented applications.Hence, in addition to the simultaneously available voltage and current measurements, the modules also possess over-voltage, over-current and over-tempera-ture protections, which can be directly programmed by the user within the independent onboard micro-controller.Due to their simple air-cooled design, these modules are mostly limited by the thermal power envelope, although powerful devices can be selected, allowing for surge power applications.

I/O EXTENSION MODEIn this mode, several control platforms are tightly linked to provide additional I/O capability while ensuring temporally-coherent signals between all boxes. The control software runs on a single device, which is the master controller. Applications with a high number of power switches and/or sensors are targeted (e.g. interleaved or multilevel topologies).

PARALLEL MODEIn this mode, multiple contol platforms are inter-connected to create a coordinated control system. Each box is running its own software on its own time basis, and is also simultaneously exchanging control variables with its neighbors. Casacded converters are typically targeted by this mode (e.g. back-to-back systems) but also systems that require redundancy.

MIXED MODEIn this mode, the platforms are interconnected using both I/O extension mode and parallel mode. This leads to possible configurations with up to hundreds of PWM outputs and analog inputs. Topologies with a high number of I/Os and a high interdependency are targeted by this mode, such as all kinds of multi-level converters (e.g. MMC, CHB, etc.).

ALTERNATIVE CELL TOPOLOGIESFor those who desire to study and test alternative cell topologies, imperix offers custom development ser-vices, typically aiming to implement clamped double submodules, cross-type submodules, etc.

FPGA-BASED IP BLOCKSAdvanced firmware blocks are available for custom FPGA implementation, typically corresponding to sort-and-select voltage balancing algorithms, digital signal conditionning, etc.

ADDITIONAL MEASUREMENTSWhen extra measurements are required, the prototyp-ing bundle can be completed with our voltage or cur-rent sensors, ranging up to 50 ARMS and 800 VDC. These sensors can be easily mounted on 35 mm DIN rails.

CUSTOMIZED ASSEMBLIESFinished assemblies can be ordered, including inde-pendent temperature monitoring (LCD), precharge cir-cuits, passives, additional cooling etc. Such systems are typically integrated in 4U rack-mountable units.
