Theurgentneedforsustainabilitytodaydemandsnewsystems
ofthinkingandnewapproachestoproblemsolvingnew
spheresoflogic.Societiesarenolongerconsideredoutsideoforindependentofthenaturalenvironment,andneither
canexistoutsideoftheinuenceoftechnology.TheLogic
oftheANAMmodelistheconceptualbasisandtheoretical
underpinningofoursustainabilityperspectivewhichlives
intheconuenceofthreespheres:Sociologic,Ecologic
andTechnologic(SET).Thethreespherestogetherforma
regimeofsustainabilityinwhichallthreeinteractivelycontrol
performance,viabilityandoutcome.Eachstrategywithinthe
MasterPlanisassessedbythesemutuallyreinforcinglogics.
SOCIOLOGIC: a strategy that is culturally relevant, collectivelyimproves human quality o lie and encourages responsible citizenship. Atruly sustainable urbanism is acilitated and maniested through its social
roots. It must be grounded in cultural heritage, both in practice and orm.
ECOLOGIC:a strategy that is a balanced and respectul managemento natural resources that meets human needs, enhances natural beauty
and mitigates natural hazards. The local ecology has been a source o
physical sustenance, creative inspiration and a struggle or survival. These
three experiences are independently signifcant but must be airly and
simultaneously addressed.
TECHNOLOGIC:a strategy that is a practical, problem-solving
application that supports resilience, optimizes processes (time, money,resources), and applies indigenous knowledge systems while advancing
innovation. Appropriate technology acilitates solutions that are readily
implementable, scalable and able to yield tangible results or the present
generation.
*Economics,typicallyunderstoodasthethirdsphereofsustainability,isexcludedfrom
thisSETnotasadevaluationoftheglobalphenomena,buttoadvancetheassertionthat
asystemofproductionofmaterialwealthisnotcentralto,butresultsfromthecollective
enduranceandprogressofhumankindasderivedfromthisSET.Themodelpositsthe
LogicalSETofinterrelationshipsasthebasisforarticulatingatrulysustainablecity.
