The clock was on green So we split the straight world

And headed out on a New mod scene.

Some where uptight-What if it's a bummer?

Their fears proved nowhere. The mod movement is

A real groove. We tripped out with

Psychedelic schedules, Muddled mods and

Free time freak outs. Twentieth century knights

Pushing the mod generation, The with-it generation,

The Assumption generation.

Organizations What is an organization? A few dozen lifeless forms hanging onto a fancy title as if the name alone denotes talent or service? Definitely not! An organization is a select gathering of strangers who become friends, pursuing a single objective with the persi~tence of a fox stalking its prey. It is the quest for self-identity . the right to say, "I was there."

KNIGHTS REIGNED OVER

Gary Stockman, Joe Smazal, Max Stanley and Denny Glancy sing at the pep rally.

HOMECOMING Homecoming activities began with the annotmcement of the queen and court for 1969. Queen Chris Artioli and her court--Helen Pohlman, Patty Same, Barb Barney, and Sara Olmsted--reigned over the weekend's activities.

Rain began a four-day seige with the homecoming bonfire. Showers continued throughout the weekend. Along with the downpour, however, there was an outpour--an outpouring of Assumption school spirit.

Students made floats with themes such as "Wreck the Greyhounds," "Spirit of '70" and "Bury the Hounds." The Knights did beat the Greyhounds, 6--0.

A dance, "The Knight's Renaissance," climaxed the successful, memorable 1969 homecoming.

HOMECOMING

Hope A craving for the pleasure of the patting on the back for a job well done. And a belief of a mini-rosebowl parade with hundreds watching flowery floats promenade at half of a triumphant battle where knights are later enjoying the dance blessed by our beautiful queen .

This was the hope.

Work Painfully arranging people and time like stacking round building blocks . to arrive late folding napkins dryly crinkling round a finger and then into the vast emptiness of bare chicken wire . . . to join late (yet too soon by some) . Six people methodically building card by card a card house of a dance, a card house of temporary pleasure for 400, a card house quickly blown down by 400, a card house only six will remember. to wishing I could join ... the thud of human versus human legs, arms, guts, muscle, and shielded head versus human

''69''

legs, arms, guts, muscles, and shielded head sloshing from a beastial crouch to the war of glory of victory of muscle and guts . A war that has stretched the eternity from Sweaty-dusty muddy August 90° 's to the Rainy-frosty muddy November 30°•s.

This was the work to accomplish the hope.

Accomplishmen t Splashing late through downtown Davenport in plastic covered soggy boats watching friends laugh at you while umbrellas laugh at them and hide our queen and sanitation trucks follow our trail to nervously cursing apathetic seniors to cheer and then learn that one car given was taken for 1200 dollars while . .. "one of the best I've seen" rallies---is under way--Assumption is winning its rosebowl turned mudbowl--as umbrellas strike again as there is thirty minutes seem seconds to dress for the dance and pick up the date greet the mayor announce he's to "queen the crown" eat party and it's over.
