    1. Game overview

    MOBA (massive outplay battle arena) is a fast-paced, tactical skirmish combat board gamein a not-too-serious cartoony fantasy setting. Its designed for two or more players and

    one game plays in about one to two hours.

    Players assemble and take command of teams consisting of 3-5 powerful heroeseach

    comes with a unique set of skills, strengths and weaknesses - and try to beat the sh!t out

    of each other. Combat is card driven, very fast and brutal and features heavy outplay

    and bluffing elements. Heroes improve over the course of the game as they unlock new

    skills for killing enemies and plunder special areas on the map for better equipment.

    While being probablythe most fun part, piling up enemy hero corpses wont win you thegame (although getting some kills might be a good start): there are different objectives

    on the map that need to be dominated in order to gain victory points the first player

    who gains 5 victory points wins the game.

    2. Key features thats why you should definitely try Mobaout

    Innovative and engaging unit activation system

    The order in which heroes of both teams are activated depends on the action cards

    that players choose for their heroes at the beginning of each round and changes

    Combat system which is full of tension and bluffing/outplay mechanics

    Moba was designed with the overall goal in mind that

    every attack and every use of an special ability

    should be full of tension and actual fun!Youll

    feel that because of the card driven combat

    resolution hitting your opponentsheroes or

    blocking and dodging incoming enemy attacks

    feels really rewarding. There is a good portion of

    risk management, planning ahead, luck and bluffing

    involved as the attacking player chooses where and how

    hard to hit the enemy hero and the defending player tries to anticipate and eventually

    Hero variance and team play

    Moba features a bunch of varying heroes, each with an

    own and distinct play style. Heroes come

    with a unique set of 4 action cards

    defining their main role on the

    battlefield. As you choose two action

    cards at the beginning of the game there

    are different possibilities to customize your

    heroes to fit your overall strategy and playstyle.

    Some heroes are squishy damage dealers that are

    rather slow and need to be supported and protected by tanky frontline units. There areAssassins whose main purpose it is to take down priority targets and that can operate

    deep behind the enemy lines deceiving and disturbing the opponents strategies. Trying

    out all the different hero combos, synergies and counter play strategies is a big fun

    factor of Moba!

    3. Introducing Pogba and Grunge (and some core mechanics)

    Heres one of the most famous and greatest heroes of Moba: Pogba the Goblin

    Marauderthe little beauty hes riding isGrunge, Pogbas Dark Wolf. On their

    spare time these guys like to maraud and plunderwell, generic Goblin

    stuff.Lets accompany these two cuties on a hard days bloody work!

    Before riding straight into battle its training time - Pogba got 4

    individual action cards at his disposal and you may unlock two of them

    that he may use from the get-go:

    Lets go with Bola Strikeand Wild Hunt. When things are going well, Pogba may unlock

    additional actions over the course of the game to bring even more havoc among his

    foes!

    First lets have a look at the map: There is one allied hero, the Goblin Shaman Ratchand

    on the enemy side Little Broggthe Troll Bruiserand Sneakythe Rat Assassinare

    waiting for a beat up. Additionally you see 3 objective areas on the map that Pogba

    could try to captureby doing so he may score the items shown on the track board at

    the side of the map !

    Because Pogba is a quite greedy little fellow his plan for now will be to try to score the

    Victory Banneritem, which is available at the Dark Tower. Victory Bannersgive you

    Victory Points and these will win you the game, so why not?

    At the beginning of each round you gotta choose secretly which of his unlocked action

    cards Pogba is going to use to realize his plans (the same goes for any other hero you

    control). Lets choose Wild Huntto get Pogba into position to kick some ass next round!

    After both players chose one action card

    per hero its time to activate the heroes by

    playing that cards. Activations happen in 4

    consecutive action phases and these are

    resolved one after the other. Lets have a

    closer look at Pogbas Wild Hunt action

    card on the right.

    The colored circles in the upper left

    corner of the card indicates, in which of

    the 4 action phases this action may be

    used (green marked spaces) and when it

    cannot be used (red marked spaces with a

    black cross )! As Wild Huntmay be used in

    all action phases, Pogba decides to wait

    until phase 4 to see what the enemy heroes

    are up to before he acts. Assuming that

    none of the other heroes has an action

    card selected which may be used in the

    4th action phase, Pogba is activated last in

    this round. When activated, Pogba moves 5 spaces on the map as the movement value

    ( ) on the action cards indicates.

    This action additionally gives him a defense bonus of +1 ( ) which isnt importantnow, because there are no attacks incoming. As this action is not an attack, there is

    nothing left to do for Pogba and his activation ends after moving.

    In round 2 you may choose again one of his two

    available action cards. Lets be a little more

    aggressive this time and go for Bola Strike, an

    attack action. On the left youll find the card

    again. As you notice Bola Strike may be played to

    activate Pogba in the action phases 1-3 and Pogba

    doesnt wantto wait any longer and go balls deep

    in phase 1, hoping to do a good amount of damage

    before the enemy heroes even can react. Pogba

    sees Sneaky the Assassin hiding in the shadows

    and decides to move 3 spaces getting into

    position to smack that Rat right of the table.

    As an attack action Bola Strikehas an attack box

    which is highlighted redin the picture on the

    left. In the right part of that box youll find a

    white number which is the range of the attack. In

    this case, the range is 2 spacesenough as

    Sneaky is just within range 2 (see the

    picture on the right!). Pogba readies

    his bola and aims carefullynow its

    only Pogba, the bola and his prey ..and

    of course GrungeHold the f*ck still

    should be mentioned here that Pogba

    has some severe anger management

    deficiencies) Now, with the bola

    midair is where the fun begins.

    To determine if Pogba hits, you may select 2 battle cards

    for his attack as indicated in the golden circle on

    the attack card. On the left is a picture of the 4

    different battle cards you can choose from -

    each showing a different hitzone where you

    could aim at.

    Lets select one cards to aim to the head and

    another one to the legs. Look at the left part of the

    attack box of the Bola Strikecard - it shows you the

    effects that hits on specific hitzone will have on the target: a hit to the head could

    inflict 2 wounds ( ) whereas a hit to the leg would not deal any damage but

    completely immobilize the target for one activation ( ). Now the selected battle

    cards are placed face down on the table (it ll help a lot to make a seriouscompassionate face while doing so to intimidate your opponent).

    In the meantime our opponent, the Assassin player also puts down one battle card face

    down trying to block incoming attacks, by anticipating which hitzones we are going to

    attack and selecting cards showing matching hitzone symbols.

    Now its time for theshowdownafter cards are flipped face up it looks like this:

    Now the Assassin player played it safe and gotthe Assassinshead out of the way, so

    our attack card showing the head hitzone is considered to be blocked and wont cause

    any effects. The attack card showing the leg however hits the Assassin who now is

    considered to be immobilized and cannot move during his next activation!

    There are no more activations in phase 1, so lets proceed to phase 2 where the

    opponent activates Sneaky, the Rat Assassin. Now that hes immobilized he cannot

    move and go to assassinate our Shaman. He uses his attack on Pogba, but as Pogba got

    a +1 defense bonus from Bola Strikegranting him a total of 2 cards to defend that

    attack does only little damage.

    In phase 3 we activate Ratch to throw out his feared

    Flame Spear. Pogba did a really good job setting that

    up because normally Flame Spearis hard to hit, as it

    may be only fired in a straight line (see the red arrow in

    the range section on the Flame Spear card) and the

    Shaman may only move one space before pulling it off.

    Now, however as Sneaky is wrapped in Pogbas bola,

    unable to move, well give it a shot!

    Again we got 2 cards to hit and Sneaky again has only 1

    to defend. Lets try a ballsier play this time and go all

    in: we select 2 cards showing the brain hitzone! After

    revealing attack cards and defense cards it doesnt

    look good for Sneaky, as his player chose to defend

    head resulting in two undefended hits on the brain for

    a total of a whopping 8 points of damage (2x4 ). As

    poor Sneaky only has 7 hitpoints hes instantly killed and removed from the table. Notethat heroes in Moba tend to be resurrected quite soon after getting killed, so that this

    is not too big of a big deal

    If a battle card with the brain hitzone wouldve been chosen to defend, Sneaky would

    not have suffered one single point of damage as both attack cards would have been

    canceled, but hey, thats life.Now our hero Ratch gets rewarded for dealing the killing

    blow to the Assassin: he may unlock one additional action card so that from now on he

    can choose between 3 different actions at the beginning of each round. Lets take a look

    at his new precious card!

    This card is a special one, as it got blue circles in the

    upper left corner instead of green or red ones. Cards

    like that are called interrupts. Interrupts give your

    heroes the opportunity to act during the activation of

    enemy heroes when certain conditions are met. They are

    a really cool way to bait enemy attacks and leave them

    helpless in the open if they fall for your trap.

    Finally Little Brogg gets to act moving forward but not

    quite reaching Pogba or Ratch, so his activation ends.

    At the end of the 2nd round Pogba is the only hero

    adjacent to the Black Tower and thus is able to score

    that Victory Banner for his team. Will it be enough to

    gain victory? Its up to you to find out see you on the

    battle fields of Moba!
